Sarabham [2014 : Tamil : Thriller]
Written & Directed by Arun Mohan
Music : Naveen Chandra, Salony Luthra, Aadukalam Naren
Banner : Thirukumaran Entertainment
Vikram, who got an awesome ringtone on his mobile, is an ambitious Architect, but his ambition is not on his profession but on finding easy routes to make sweatless money. When his dream project is rejected by his client, a number uno construction firm, Vikram wants to avenge the Buisness man just to quench his anger. That night, an unitentional meeting helps him to beat and con the Buisness Man, but his sucess does not live past that night. Soon he is slaped with unbeatable truth and victimized by deception, Vikram getting over with 'that night' becomes endless.
Sarabham reinvents Newton's law - For every evil there is a more greater and opposite evil. CV Kumar embeddes yet another gem in his production ring. Hats off. Arun Mohan has nicely pulled off a thriller which is adequate in providing something to look out for in the film. Britto Michael's BGM score is what projects the scenes giving it the necessary tension and mounting the movie to an interesting watch. Songs (Pudhidhai Oru Iravu, Bodhayil Pathai Marum & Neram) come at prominent places and they are quite effective. He has added a terrificing piece towards the climax which pumps up the revelation sequence.
Naveen Chandra as Vikram performs to an extent. He still needs to be sponteneous but certain places he does show some signs of having rehersed the scenes. He should concentrate on tightening his delivery, neverthless another promising new face for TFI. Salony Luthra is sublime. She breezes away in her role. Aadukalam Naren, every next film becomes his best performence. His tiny crooked smile talks for itself. So these are the 3 characters that take part in the majority of the film, and the crowd, I mean the rest of the artists are just by-standers in a handful of scenes. Arun Mohan has done a good job with rolling the story with just these 3 characters and providing yet another cost effective production for CV Kumar.
The film could not sustain the momentum. Trying to juggles with the backstory now and then makes it lethargic. For instance Arun Mohan, suddenly tries to spoon feed us (I suppose its very much needed these days as audience seem to worry about something thats not shown to them). Here are the places where the movie lags a lot, eventhough with an efficient editing they do tie up the loose ends. Other than such tiny cracks, the film works big time and is sure to surprise many.
Sarabham : Twist o Twist
other songs also good.. have shades of IRs 80's songs..
