Movie is apparently inspired by VJKanth's Sathriyan which was interestingly written by Mani Ratnam, who also wrote and directed Mouna Ragam, which many say inspired Atlee's first film, Raja Rani.
Mottai Rajendran plays a cabbie in ‘Vijay 59’
Actor Mottai Rajendran, who rose from a stunt master to one of the most sought after comedians in Tamil cinema, will be seen as superstar Vijay’s driver in his next outing which is tentatively titled “Vijay 59”.
“Rajendran plays Vijay’s driver in the film. Unlike some reports, he’s not playing a cameo. He appears throughout the film,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.
Being directed by Atlee, the film features Vijay in the role of a policeman and co-stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson in important roles.

ILAYATHALAPATHY VIJAY TO TROLL HIS OWN FORMULA IN VIJAY 59 ?
'Vijay 59', the Ilayathalapathy's upcoming movie with director Atlee and produced by Thanu, has been shot in Chennai extensively till now. 2 songs have been canned so far - a mass number and a montage song, while the 3rd song which happens to be a duet number with Vijay and Samantha would be shot soon, again in Chennai. With this song's shoot, about 70% of the film would be done and Samantha's portions would have been completely wrapped.
Amy Jackson would join the team soon, and talkie portions and 2 songs are left to be shot before a complete wrap. They are likely to shoot in Goa and a foreign destination in the coming days.
The team is eyeing a summer 2016 release, and would be looking to firm up the title soon. The first look launch plans are yet to be decided. Interestingly, the film will apparently have some spoof scenes where Vijay would be seen trolling his own typical commercial formula elements. Sportive, we say !
GV Prakash, Ruben, George Williams and Muthuraj lead the technical team of the film.

Santhanam teams up with Vijay after a gap
Indiaglitz had earlier reported that Naan Kadavul Rajendran will be playing the role of Ilayathalapathy Vijay's car driver in the latter's 59th film that is being directed by Atlee. We can be assured that the bald comedian will have ample scope to make laugh out loud throughout the film.
The inclusion of Lollu Sabha fame Swaminathan and Bhushan of 'Raja Rani' fame were also spotted shooting for the film and we can be assured that the beeline of these comedy actors will bring the much needed comic relief for the film touted to be a cop story.
Now we have learnt from reliable sources that ace comedian Santhanam is also acting in the film. The inclusion of Santhanam in a Vijay film can expected to blow comic crackers in theatres.

VIJAY 59 GOES THE REGULAR ROUTE!
Vijay’s fans are eager to know more about Ilayathalapathy’s next film Vijay 59. This film is being shot at a brisk clip with over 70% of the total shoot being completed so far.
Vijay 59 directed by Atlee, is expected to do a massive pre-release business just like the star's other recent films.
Generally, regular distributors of a star's films maintain a good relationship with the star, which goes beyond just profit and loss. Cosmo Films Siva is one such trade partner for Ilayathalapathy Vijay. Apparently, Siva who is a regular distributor of Vijay’s films like Jilla, Kaththi and Puli among others in the Coimbatore (Kovai) region, will again be releasing 'Vijay 59' in this region.

Here is an interesting update on Ilayathalapathy’s upcoming venture, Vijay 59. The ever youthful actor was recently spotted with a beard sporting a slightly different makeover, compared to his earlier shooting spot still which featured him with a clean shaven and fully trimmed cop style haircut.
From what we hear, Vijay is a cop, who goes on a mission off duty, something similar to what he did in Thuppakki. And with the look of things, Vijay might be sporting that beard when he is on one such off duty missions
Is that a design still or an official one.

After Kaththi, Samantha is pairing up with Vijay again for Atlee's 'Vijay 59' and she has wrapped her parts for the film. The film is gearing up for a summer 2016 release and Amy Jackson's portions would be commenced soon.
Recently Sam had some really nice words to say about Ilayathalapathy with a new picture of the two from the shooting spot.

Apparently, Vijay is a big favorite not just with his audience base but also with his Kaththi / 'Vijay 59' co-star Samantha. The two are bound to share crackling chemistry in this Atlee film as the director is known to be a specialist with romance.
