Hello friends.
My latest Blog is on Actor and my good friend Mr.Sathyaraj.
Please check it out.
http://mohanramanmuses.blogspot.com/
In it you will find links to a great interview he gave to me for our Rotary District Conference where he spoke on everything and everyone, well, almost....Please do leave your comments....both in the Blog and in Youtube. Almost all my Blogs are on Cinema and all the Videos I have thus far posted are Film related too....
Thank you.
In this week's AV (aug 29 - 08):
They re-published Sathyaraj's 1985/86 interview, when he was one of the top villain in Tamil Cinema.
He speaks in general what made him MGR fan, how he came to this field etc.
He says that, he got his big break as a villain in "Nooravathu Nal". Eventhough it was not a great performance, it was his luck which gave him a break because of that character.
He adds that, he simply did what the director wanted & the persons who contributed to the success of that "mottai" character were:
Manivannan - he asked him to tonsure his head
Ilayaraaja - he gave a good BGM for that character
costume designer - he gave him the red jarkin & cooling glass
His color - he got from his parents
Matrapadi interview avvalavu suvarasiyamaga illai :P
------------------------------------------
some similarities:
Sathyaraj's career Break - Nooravathu Nal - Vijayakanth film - Director: Manivannan
Sarath kumar's career Break - Pulan Visaranai - Vijayakanth film - Director: R K Selvamani (Manivannan's assistant)
:D

Sibiraj wedding reception
The similarities, does that mean good or bad, HR? Allowing minor characters to outshine yourselves is magnanimous indeed.Quote:

Thanks for the recap of the interview, HR.
Good :) because Vijayakanth had a role in both the filmsQuote:

Vanakkam talaiva! Wish you a happy birthday! Many returns of the day. Stay healthy and continue to make interesting movies. We forgive you for some of the brain-squashingly puke inducing craps that you have been giving with alarming consistency..
Thank god that has changed recently with some really good quality stuff. You have proved how someone with limited acting capabilities can make the best ouf of it.
Again, Many Happy Returns of The Day.
(If only he could read this, sigh).

Thanks for the info, HR. Any news on the progress of the Tangkar Bachan’s film? Am eagerly awaiting that one…let’s see if there is a good chemistry with Madhavan. Will be second pairing for Madhavan as far as senior star is concerned (after Kamal).
Is he acting under Thangar Bachan, that too with Maddy? Whats the film name?
But not much news about SR's recent films.
Yennangga ithu? Theriyathaa? I thought I read it here…or was it in Madhavan’s thread. Here is one link:
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/t...cle/42393.html
I think…and no offence to others…but SR is the most flexible amongst his peers (though this is not always a good thing, rembe flexible naaley he gave some really pathetic performance in bad films).
Yes. Saw the posters today.Quote:

A complete entertainer directed by Manivannan.
He seems to be the hottest director at that period - 1987. I read that, he stopped direction because of his physical illness & concentrated on acting alone (mid of 1990's).
As other Sathyaraj films (IMO), here too dialogues are
Story-Dialogues: Vietnam veedu Sundaram (Initially I thought it could be by Manivannan, as he is also a writer assisting BarathiRaja)
In this, Manivannan uses the old get-ups of Sathyaraj from his own films except for Muttam Chinnapadas (Barathiraja's).
Get-ups used by Sathyaraj:
Nooravathu naL - Mottai
Vidinja Kalyanam - old man
Kadalora kavithaigal - Muttam Chinnapadas
Mudhal Vasantham - kunguma pottu gounder
24 mani neram - X W Ramanathan
Radha seems to be OK & I felt... oru periya round vandhuruppar as she paired with all the Top heroes of her time.
Music: Isaignani
Most liked song:
hey Raja.. onranoam inru :2thumbsup: [can't better this for a male duet, leaving out fighting songs (IMO)]
A revenge Story where Sivaji & SR join together to kill 3 of their enemies in different styles, ah.. this reminds me of Apoorva Sagotharargal.. but there is no similarity in screenplay. Similar to AS.. all the 3 villains posukku posukku vizhundhuduranga.
As a whole, If u like 80's masala films, u wud like this film & in addition if u are a fan of either Sivaji or Sathyaraj, u will like it more (IMO)
<preferred Jallikattu for Vachinathan telecasted at the same time slot in another channel :P >
What a sacrifice :D !Quote:

 yes... but Vanchinathan is repeated often in sun / k tvQuote:

After a long, long time, ‘Puratchi Tamizhan’ Sathyaraj, who started off his career in Kollywood as a villain, gets to play the role of a don in ‘Pettai Mudhal Kottai Varai’. He had played the villain in ‘Adidhadi’, released a few years ago.
In ‘Pettai…’, the don played by Sathyaraj manipulates the clashes between two dons to his advantage. Saravanan, who got a new lease of life with Amir’s ‘Paruthiveeran’, and Nasser play the other two dons in the film. Newcomers Varshinni and Hema Kailash pair up against the veteran actor.
Ilavarasu, R. Sundarrajan, Nambirajan and Muthukumar play important roles in the film. ‘Thenisaithendral’ Deva scores the music and Ashok Rajan cranks the camera.
Jameen Raj, who directed Mansoor Ali Khan’s ‘Ennai Paar, Yogam Varum’, writes the story, dialogues, screenplay and directs the film.

HR, can we pass verdict that this is going to be crap, but watchable only because of the lead actors?
sure.. without any doubt :)Quote:

Funny enough, the movie would have worked if it came out seven or eight years ago. As for Gounder, he may not have much fang here, but he sure has the claws. The old nastiness creeps in once in a while, but there are no real good opponents to insult. Insulting politicians is so common, so nothing new here.
There is an interesting scene towards end of the film, when SR is arrested. They arrest Gounder too but he makes a big ruckus out of it. SR will turn and soberly tells, “kamedy pannura neeramaa ithu?”. Immediately Gounder becomes serious and walk by himself instead of being dragged by cops. Interesting moment.
In the fag end of his career, sathyaraj started taking some really good roles.. Onbadhu rooba nottu, his acting is too good.. ..
He's doing one more with the same director, with Madhavan, called Tolainthu Poonavargal.Quote:

Sathyaraj & Amaidhipadai - Cannot be matched by anyone......... It is interesting to see who wud remake this
This film was almost have the same essence of Raththakanneer, I feel so
About sarayam kachuradhu:
satta virodhama kaachunathan naalu kasu sambadhikka mudiyum
I can't think of anyone doing this role. It will go to the grave with Sathyaraj.Quote:

And his performance, when he gets his henchmen to kill her, he regrets it, but it has to be done. This man is evil to the core.
Amaithipadai was class. Election scene is the obvious one.
mani: ammavasai neeya pesura
satyaraj: Nagaraja Cholan. MA

after that
main: Ooty-ku taniyathan ponum pola

Another scene where extreme seriousness ended with comedy. Astrologer gives SR a short life expectancy. Miffed, SR asks the astrologer what is his lifespan.
Astrologer: Enakku ayul romba ketti. Ninety years!
SR: Mani, itha pidi (hands over his whiskey glass).
SR turns to retrieve his revolver and shoots the astrologer. Takes the glass back and says:
“Ivan ayuley ivanukku theriyilee…” and bits of dialogue, then sprinkles some of the whiskey on the dead man.
He proceeds to drink, looks at the glass and says something like, “Koranja mathiri irukku. Nee kudichiya?
Mani: Illai, Oru vela neengga telichinggalaa athaan.
SR: Nee kudikala illa? (still suspicious….all completely not bothered about the dead astrologer at his feet)
Almost all scenes with Nagaraja chozhan & love duel of young SR & Ranjitha &Quote:
