:P
Revathi is a decent actress but not a great performer. I think she is a bit over rated. Rohini .. :? Oorvasi is good at comedy.Quote:

Saritha was pretty good in Agni Saatchi (one of my favorite MSV songs kanaa kaanum kangal rendu...).Quote:

decent actress not a great performer? Why the distinction? And I think she is far better than decent. In fact Panjavarnam by itself should lift her well above the "decent" category.
Exactly Simms simply ruled in all department :P :PQuote:

 The bigger and bolded name is easily the most talented, and hence, the most wasted (rather unfortunately)Quote:

The way she shifts her gear in emotional roles, is only slightly less annoying than Lakshmi, and slightly less typical than KR Vijaya's crying.
:notworthy: the words cute and sexy very rarely go hand in hand.Quote:

Here is a list of some who impressed me the most in what little scope they got:
1) Savitri: She had everything. Melodrama - here you go. Comedy - take that. All as if she wasn't even making a big effort about it. From what little I have seen of her work, I am convinced she is the only one who can ably cross swords with Sivaji.
For eg.: I don't think any actress anywhere can ever do the Sathyavan-Savithri skit in Navarathri. You don't even need a time handicap to enjoy that today. She is acting within acting when she does that - when most heroines struggle to act once in their entire career. Best by a distance.
2) Padmini: One of the most underrated actresses - just because she was an awesome dancer and was gorgeous. So many scenes and so many movies where she dominated the scenes. She had it all. She could be over-the-top melodramatic but also subtle and expressive with her expressions and modulations.
3) Shoba: Nizhal Nijamagiradhu is perhaps the best debut in Tamil.Mullum Malarum and AzhiyAdha KolangaL were competent performances too. Haven't seen Pasi but can safely declare she is right up there. Must admit the ranking factors certain "what ifs"
4) Sridevi: A competent actress from the start, she dished out several good performances as she grew. Meendum Kokila and Moondram PiRai for a taste of her diversity.
5) Saritha: Ok subtract irritating KB-ness and you would still see so much in her, no pun intended.
6) Urvasi: Was Munthanai Mudichchu her debut - then easily one of the best talents ever. Amazing fluency in her acting not to mention her excellence in comedy -MMKR oNNE pOdhum.
7) Khushboo: Got better and better at the job. From Kizhakku Vaasal to Jathimalli and that's an early phase of her career.Of course you have to wade through many crappy films to see that she is actually pretty good.
8) Bhanupriya: A very impressive actress who could 'own' scenes, with a wide range too
9) Rohini: MaRupadiyum and MagaLir Mattum. She can rest assured of an all-time spot with just these two.
10) Simran: Kannaththil MuththamittAl....'nuff said
Other 'honorable mentions' include:
Radhika, Revathi, Sujatha, Jothika (her last movie being her best - NEsanal award conpfirm) ....
Watch Nizhal Nijamaagiradhu - her debutQuote:

I intentionally avoided Sridevi. enakkennavO she was more towards glamour and bubbly stuff than performance.Quote:

With successful stars like Sridevi - the glitz tends to hide their good performances.Quote:

Apart from acting skills ,her Tamil diction  (though Tamil is not her mother tounge) ..Real Nadigayar Thilagam
My Fav would be without a blink of eye - Urvasi... :notworthy: its a pity that she didnt get a lot of good oppurtunities to display her versatility. Now with age not in her side, she would need to be content with marginal not-so-important roles.
She is so natural, she performs so many inconspicuous expressions, its a joy to watch her in any role. Needless to say she is at her best in Comedy
I am having a hard time trying to list out other female performers, its such a rarity for an actress to get screentime, leave alone making an impact in such short duration.
I used to like revathy, but I think she is too one-dimensional. Someone pls correct me by pointing out some of her better performances.
Jo performs what I would call as "sellable acting" .. its so prominent, in-the-face that its hard for you not to notice it. Mind you she is still a very fine actress.
Heroines who had good run eventually turned out to be better performers, say Sridevi, Simran, Kushboo.
So, who else? :? I dont watch that many movies :ashamed:
I believe Urvashi's range was better satisfied in Malayalam. ThalyaNa Manthram-nu oru padaththula she plays the capricious older daughter-in-law, defining performance of hers for me.
If we are talking beauty, I am yet to be enamored of anyone as I was of Amala. She was a decent actress too, in Sathya and Pesum Padam and passable in Vetham Puthithu.
