yuvi - personal fav, can tear-apart the bowling attacks wen he is in great nick,
inzi - slow-a start panni singles-a eduthu slog overs-la adichu thuvamsam pannuvaru.
beven - great odi player, play very well in pressure situations...
it occured to me yesterday only - as riyazz or someone had said, initially we thought it was selecting best pair for sachin but after 3-4 polls, i realised all great players were put through polls except for sachin - so i just needed to know the reason for it...........ofcourse, it ballooned into a big debate.....Quote:

I mean, obviously as dhoni fan, one would choose him over gilchrist but if you purely apply ability, records, proven matchwinning skills?
Dhoni as a great captain gives him the edge but yea gilchrist is legendary stuff........Quote:

nyaayamAna pEchu. Gilchrist is almost an automatic choice for wk-bat, if not for #7 not being his normal position in ODIs and the presence of Andy Flower, Dhoni etc as contenders. Even then, their record pales before Gilly and only the position being #7 prevents him from being an unopposed candidate, i think.
ok, so i will nominate beven for no-6 wen that comes.Quote:

happy to see few nominations 4 yuvi. he deserves. wer is ajay. avar irunthalum nominate pannuvaru....rajarasigan?
To everybody who is not nominating Bevan as he is an ideal No. 6. There is only one slot left for a batsman. After No. 5, it is going to be WK and ll-rounder. So please think again.
My nomination
Michael Bevan - Tempo ellaam vachu kadathirukkaaru, konjam paathu pottu kudunga.

A significant skill, ofcourse but not worthy of being in the company of sachin, lara et al in the same team. Do you need Bevan to salvage this team?
The Strike rate 69 is the clearest indicator of this.
wats the combo?Quote:

1) The team he played for (I mean Slater and Taylor opening :banghead:). He was left to salvage bad starts most of the times.
2) The quality of the opposition.
3) Quality of pitches he played most. Aussie pitches of those days aren't really 300+ pitches.
4) 230-240 was considered a match-winning total those days. So strike rates-la konjam leeway kodukkalaam.
Also, look at his performance in tough pitches. The match against England in 2003 world cup was a classic example. He looked totally unperturbed when all the other batsmen were struggling (except Bichel who was living the day of his life :D).
Plum, you never know. A line up consisting of Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Sachin was blown up by a not so great bowler just recently :P Bevan was never known as a hitter/slogger, but he gets the job done. I can't even think of anyone else in the place of Bevan at 6.Quote:
