Thanks venki and Sid. Yes, DOF could have been better. Thanks for your valuable inputs. I even tried sitting to get that picture, but there were people sitting all over the place, on the steps. I heard ideal time for shooting is round 8-9 pm in the evening, where crowd will be less. I have seen some breath-taking pictures during that time.

Amazing pictures folks
So its just me who owns a DSLR and using it like a point&shoot. I always set it to 'Auto' and click pics.
The technical details on your posts are greek and latin to me. Where to start? I don't want to read the manual. Is there a easy-to-read online guide or something?
Excellent colors from your camera. I loved the sunset.. I am still with my Panasonic FZ-28 with 18x leica lens. The main reason I could not leave this camera behind is because of the leica lens. Leica used to manufacture F2.8 throughout the zoom range (from 36-432 mm) for earlier Panasonic models, now they are not doing that, but still one of the best lens.
amazing bokeh Venki
This was taken in July 2009 fireworks in our place. ISO 400, f 7.2, I did with continuous shooting mode.

Thanks venkki. :D Even I could not believe it was coming from my camera. That's the main reason I did not want to leave that camera behind. I has been shooting brilliantly for me.
Back in 2007, even I was split between Panasonic FZ and Nikon D40 (40x, 70 and 70S).
Decided to go with Nikon SLR just because I needed it for professional reasons and the option to upgrade. I personally wanted to get a Panasonic only.. especially due to the Leica factor.
some super shots, folks
venki... your first pic in this thread... awesome perspective and fantastic symmetry! loveliness
yeah, the architecture's beauty is a given, but your angle selection helps in making it a very interesting picture here.
Yes, I am stunned by the lighting. How did you get that venki. Especially on the second row, the one below is little darker and all layers above are gradually getting darker. How did you achieve it? Something outstanding! :notworthy:
:ty:
The sciography which naturally occurs when the source of light is behind the subject. I didn't apply anything special, except for choice of angle.. keeping it very low and orienting the sun (It was almost sunset.. Between 4 and 5 in the vening I think) in the centre. The inherent geometry is killer, seriously!
Canon T3i (600D)
Canon 18-135 IS lens
Canon 70-300 IS USM lens
Planning to buy 2 more lenses - 50 mm Prime 1.4 & a wide-angle lens
6 months down the line, if I have enough cash, will go for Canon 100-400 L or Sigma 50-500mm
I was contemplating Nikon D5100 Package. Got a very good deal on Canon and the 2 lenses ($400 off). Hence, bought it.
More than 100 posts (without digressions) for a non-sport, non-filmy thread in 3 days! to all contributors!

Moon and bird snaps are excellent. I feel like I landed on the moon! Please bring here more!
:shaking: :)
You have a Canon DSLR as well? I remember that you bought a Nikon D5100 during Thanksgiving.
Question to all: What is your opinion on 3rd party lenses like Sigma, Tamron, Tokina etc? For example Canon 100 - 400 L comes to 1400-1500 dollars. Sigma 50-500, almost the same price, but with a better focal range.
I am not worried about cost - Given a choice - Which would you choose from, from the same price range? a slightly more versatile third-party or the OEM with slightly lesser feature?
I presume there cannot be straight-forward answer. Just asking for experiences and opinion.
