One of the best love duets by Chandrabose. And one of the best in SJ-KJY combination. Chandrabose holding his own during the times monopolized by IR. Even T.Rajendar and Manoj-Gyan got a lot of publicity those days. But Chandrabose quietly made his contribution without many knowing where the songs came from.

R.Sudarsanam was at the fading end of his career in 1965. He had been composing music for films since at least the 1940s. "Parasakthi" is one among the many classics he composed music for.

Kaarthigai Dheepam is probably a tearjerker. Many songs in the film are sad, or have a tinge of sadness (eNNappaRavai by TMS, eNNappaRavai by PS, thangga thEril vanthiRanggum by LRE, unggu uNNadA selvamE by LRE, malai sAynthu pOnAl by TMS).

Listen to TMS's rendition of eNNappaRavai. It is a simpe composition. The Pallavi is great but the rest of the song lines are simple. But... do not be fooled by its simplicity. It might go straight to your heart. Click on the link, close your eyes and let yourself go... (it is a lullaby, so, don't fall asleep).

The songwriter must have really felt it in his heart to write lines like this. The unconditional love of a mother for her child.

And the voice of Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi... pristine and clear as crystal. The Soolamangalam Sisters, both Rajalaskhmi and Jayalakshmi, must have been specially blessed at birth by divinity (if you believe in one). Voices that sound so sacred, voices that have a purifying effect. You play any of their bhakti song and it feels as though the surrounding atmosphere has been purified. Not only were the sisters blessed with such sacred voices, they were also blessed with the wisdom to identify their niche and excel in it, bhakti music in a simple and appealing style. Today's song is not exactly a bhakti song in a religious sense, but what can be more deserving of devotion than the pure love the song is expressing.

K.V.Mahadevan scored nothing but gems for this film.

SN23, I don't know who the song is for. I have not seen the film. I think SR sang for Sowcar Janaki in Padikkatha Medhai and may be in Naanal. That is all I can recall at the moment.

Another nice song from Thaaliyaa Salangaiyaa. All three female solos in the film have several references to gods and goddesses. May be because the story is about a temple dancer? I have not seen the film. KVM's beautiful songs were washed away in the big IR wave. Still they left a lasting impression within the short time they aired.
