Remembering MGR on his 27th death anniversary
It is 27 years today (24/12/2014) since the Tamil film industry lost its greatest actor MGR. Today is the 27th death anniversary of MGR and we at iluvcinema.in remember MGR on his 27th death anniversary by paying rich musical tributes to the immortal actor.
Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran (MGR) was a popular actor, director, producer and politician and also served as a Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for three successive terms. Born in 1917, he turned to be the third Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to be rewarded with Bharat Ratna Award following his death in 1987. MGR, who was a member of the Congress Party was rewarded the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the movie ‘Enga Veetu Pillai’, National Film Award for Best Actor for the movie “Rickshawkaran”, also received Honorary doctorate from University of Madras and The World University.
MGR born in Nawalapitiya, Sri Lanka entered the world of cinema and became an actor, director, producer and editor. He married to Sathanandavathhi but after her expiry he married a Tamil actor, V.N. Janaki.
He touched the hearts of millions of fans by his fantabulous performance in movies like ‘Anbe Vaa’, ‘Adimai Penn’ and won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1972 for the film ‘Richshawkaran’. The charismatic actor’s few movies were even filmed abroad and also had been shot in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand which are considered to be ‘Rarest of The Rare’ of that era. MGR ended his acting career in 1977 and continued as a politician. His films appealed to the direct sentiments of the common man as well as the rich ones which played a crucial role in enabling him to become a great politician. People were very influenced by his films and so by his dialogues.
MGR had good terms with M.R. Radha and had worked together in 25 films. MGR will always be memorable in the minds of the people. He is undoubtedly an iconic and was a complex man who triumphed over poverty. This multi-talented actor, director, producer, editor and politician will undoubtedly be loved by all.
