The reason is, when a comparison is made, nobody takes into consideration the theater seating capacitywise . For example : Shanthi and DeviParadise in Chennai....Chitra and Plaza...Plaza and Paragon...Madurai Central and Meenakshi...etc., This will make huge difference in collection. When such critical parameter is not considered there is no use in the collection statements too is what we can also conclude. Similarly, proper weightage will not be given on multiple films of the same actor getting released at shorter time.

We get to understand all these things, only when we think logically. But as far as we are concerned, it is emotion that plays pivotal role... :-)

I am with your comments " Fans Associations" pamplets cannot be taken for granted as they are not the "Authority". Again, collections will vary accordingly to the theatres, e.g. Sathyam and Mahaakshmi, ticket prices varies. For example some say padagotti and Petral Than Pillaya were not 100 days movie which is incorrect and it has been proved. In the same manner some even say KOT and K were not sucessful which again is incorrect, which again has been proved.

However, we cannot, for sure, say if movies are released with a long gap will be successful and released within a short span of time will not be that successful. In my knowledge success not only depend on the Star value by also on the "Sarakku" in the movie. You know very well that movies released on the same day have successfully completed 100days run.

Nevertheless, I have to compare two movies [ which I never do], I would have compared USV with RRC[31/3/1973] or ponunjal[15/6/1073] or Engal Thanga Raja [ 15/7/1973] which makes it somewhat logical comparison because these movies were released more or less at the same time. In the same manner if I need to compare Thanga Pathakkam 1/6/1974, I would have compared it with Netru Indru Naalai [ 12/7/1974] or Urimaikural [ 7/10/1974] or Sirithu Vazha Vendum [ 20/11/1974]. By the way UK and SVV were released within a short span of time and enjoyed min. 100 days run. in the same manner Iru Malargal and Ooty varai Ooravu released on the same day enjoyed min. 100days run.

My personal opinion is never to compare movies of different personalities. Instead would it not be better to compare movies of the same star with their earlier movies, to show which movie was more successful.
