Actually, any other decent actor could pull it off. Not in my fav Rajini performance list. I think he was better in similar role in Gayathri (too long ago when I watched it, and was in opposite camp). Here he was K.B's puppet (tittu vAnggunathu intha padamthAnE?)

I agree this was not a meaty role,but not many actors during that time period could have done this better with a villan face :lol:, may be Srikanth could have done this.
