Kamal's message for Rahman
February 23, 2009
The entire Indian film industry has gone ecstatic over the clean sweep of Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscar's today. The celebrities are now coming out with their congratulatory messages and Kamal Haasan is one among the early birds to wish the Mozart of Madras.
The actor had said he felt like he was walking along with A.R. Rahman on stage to collect the award. According to Kamal Haasan, he always found Rahman to be very simple and .
uncomplicated. The actor added that he was proud and happy as an Indian for Rahman's fete
The Ulaganayagan, while talking about the musical genius's humility, recalled an incident during the Marmayogi project. Kamal pointed out that while he was going gaga over a song composition for the film, Rahman was calm and composed.
Kamal said that Oscars is not like Olympics because each entry is judged based on American standards and not on universal standards. "It is good that Indians are doing well and they cannot be ignored at the Oscars anymore", the star added.

Chennai , Feb 23 Noted filmmaker Maniratnam, who introduced A R Rahman to the film industry through&aposRoja&apos, today said he was proud of the music maestro, whose work has been recognised"internationally"after the double Oscar win.
"He is special. Thats all It doesn&apost matter which award he gets. All that matters is that his work had been recognised internationally," Maniratnam said.
"We all should be proud of it and I am especially very proud of him,"the noted director said when asked for his reaction.
Maniratnam approached Rahman to score music for his&aposRoja&aposin 1991 after seeing him performing at an awards ceremony in Chennai .
Since Roja, Rahman has scored music for all the movies directed by Maniratnam and they almost became indispensable for each other.
"I think every victory is good and&aposSlumdog&aposis a brilliant film and hopefully, very soon, an Indian film will make it at the Oscars," Maniratnam said.
Asked whether he was in the race for Oscars, he said:"No".
Thiruda Thiruda, Bombay, Uyire (Dil Se in Hindi), Alaipayuthae (Saathiya), Kannathil Muthamittal, Guru and Aayutha Ezhuthu were some of the super hit movies in which the duo worked.

The Right Chord
SUKHWINDER SINGH, singer who did vocals for Jai Ho !
Rahman is one of the best composers we have and as a team, we with Gulzar saab rocked. The term ‘Jai Ho’ is also a call for prayer. Yesterday was Shivratri. I think this song is blessed.
SHANKAR MAHADEVAN, singer-composer
It was so nice to see Rahman and his wife Sara walking the red carpet. They looked so cute together and Rahman looked a bit shy accepting this huge award. It was a heart-warming sight.
ILA ARUN, singer
Rahman is a musician extraordinaire. He is a very quiet person who knows how to best make use of a singer’s strengths and weaknesses. He’s able to bring out a great emotional range.
SALIM MERCHANT, music director
He’s got our film music into the limelight. Zubin Mehta, Ravi Shankar and Zakir Hussain did it with the Grammy awards. Now, Rahman has done it with not one, but two Oscars!
ALKA YAGNIK, singer
Rahman has done us proud. I’m fortunate to have been a part of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. Jai Ho!
BENNY DAYAL, singer
I’m over the moon about Rahman sir’s victory. It’s a clear message to every Indian that nothing is impossible. The highest attainable awards are the SAGs, BAFTA and the Oscars, and Rahman sir has won all three. Can things get any better?
BHARAT BALA, producer of many Rahman albums, including Vande Mataram
What a day for Rahman and India! Two Oscars within a few minutes, truly incredible. I think his music is truly international as he is able to connect with a global audience, something no Indian has been able to achieve before.
SUJATHA, singer
I was moved by his acceptance speech and touched when he said that without his mother’s blessings, he would not have reached here.
YESUDAS, singer
I have sung a lot of Malayalam songs for Sekhar, and was also privileged to sing for his son Rahman. I think Rahman is going to be a role model for the youth of this country as he has proved that hard work and determination help one succeed.
GV PRAKASH, music composer and Rahman’s nephew
No one can match Rahman’s hard work and commitment to work and he’s been doing this since Roja. I have no words to express my state of mind. The Oscars have come a bit late in his career, though.
DR L SUBRAMANIAM, violin maestro
It’s fantastic to hear that AR Rahman, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty — three Indians — have all won awards the same year! It’s a proud moment for all Indians and particularly for the music fraternity. We have so much to rejoice about.
MADHUMITA, singer who worked on the Slumdog Millionaire OST
Working with AR Rahman has been a great experience and I feel blessed to be part of the Slumdog team. It’s a proud moment for me to have been associated with a movie that has won such prestigious awards. When I sang my tracks, I had no idea that I was part of something that would become phenomenal. This is just the beginning and I’m sure there will be a lot more collaborations that will happen with Indian musicians.
AR REHANA, music composer and AR Rahman’s sister
There’s no denying that his score for the film was really good. Once I knew he was in the running for Best Score and Song at several of these international awards, I never doubted his chances of winning. And now, his win turns the spotlight on Indian music and I’m sure much more recognition will come our way.
EMIL, music director
AR Rahman sir’s victory at the Oscars isn’t surprising at all. I always knew he’d win an Oscar someday. I worked as an audio engineer with him on films like Guru and Sillunu Oru Kadhal and it was a fantastic experience. It’s his absolute devotion to his work that made him shine at the Oscars.
KARTHIK, singer
This makes me proud of being a Rahman discovery. I’m so glad for him because he truly deserves this award. I’m sure he’ll go on to win many more Oscars just like how he’s been sweeping Filmfare all these years.
MAHALAKSHMI IYER, one of the singers on Jai Ho!
It couldn’t have gone to anyone other than Rahman sir. I disagree with people who say that AR Rahman has done a good job in Jai Ho! only because it was an international project. Oscar or not, he will always give his best. I’ve learnt a lot about dedication and hard work from Rahman sir. He gives you the freedom to open your mind and be yourself, and at the same time introduces you to variations involved in singing a song. He’s known as a man of few words and I remember he once clearly told me, ‘the more you give, the more you get back’ and this Oscar has just proved Rahman right!
DWARAKISH, veteran actor and film-maker
When I watched Rahman accepting the Oscars, I couldn’t help but go back in time when this shy boy used to play the keyboard in my films! Rahman, whom I used to call Dilipa, would travel all the way from Chennai in his van, finish his recording and travel back to Chennai even at midnight. He played the keyboard in 10 of my films including Dance Raja Dance, Krishna Nee Kunidaaga, Nee Bareda Kadambari and Indina Ramayana. And to think back then, when I’d ask him if he wanted to become a music director, Rahman would say, ‘I can’t take up such a huge responsibility!’
VASUNDHARA DAS, singer
It’s fantastic; it’s high time someone deserved to bring an Oscar home. All my experiences working with Rahman have been positive. I have sung for him, we have toured together and also worked on many experimental projects. He is very cooperative and gives equal responsibility to the singer to make the composition magical. It’s always been wonderful collaborating with him — he, who has pushed the boundaries and has come a long way all by himself.

"I am a crazy fan of Rahman? Trisha

Today is a red letter day in Trisha抯 life as her biggest icon AR Rahman has won two Oscars. Talking about Rahman, the actress is all smiles and speaks from the location of her Telugu film in Hyderabad.
Trisha told Sify.com: 揑 am not just another fan, but a crazy fan of Rahman. You won抰 believe that sitting alone in my hotel room in Hyderabad, I was watching the Oscars from early morning and I started screaming, jumping and shouting when Rahman won the Oscar, that the hotel staff came and told me that I had to bring down the TV volume as guests were sleeping in adjecent rooms. It was truly embarrassing though I didn抰 really care?
Trisha has been a Rahman fan since school and confesses that it was partly due to him that she entered films and when Enakku 20 Unakku 18 offer came her way, she blindly signed on the dotted line as Rahman was the music director. She also had the privilege of working in Mani Ratnam抯 Ayitha Ezhuthu (Yuva in Hindi ) with Rahman抯 music. And who can forget her beach song Hey Goodbye Nanba?/I> or that hot disco number Yaakai Thiri?/I>.
And now her next film Gautham Menon抯 Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya will have music by AR Rahman and she is all excited about it. Gushes Trisha: ?I have never been so emotional in my life and it was such an ecstatic moment when Rahman won the Oscars. I don抰 think that I抣l be so happy, even if something like this happens in my life. I have made Gautham promise me that he will give me a seat next to his for the audio launch of Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya?
