By coincidence was listening to the same album. I had been to Kerala last weekend and got the tape of this album. Every song a gem I would say. Agree with you on 'Snehathin'. I also love 'Enpoove'. There is an excellent Janaki slow version of it.Quote:

raj's posts led to the following thoughts:
The respect that Raja has in the Malayalam film music world is sometimes surprising. As raj_musing has mentioned, Raja has probably not been associated with many 'hits' or 'classics' in Malayalam. I would say that the two movies, which had music by Raja and which seem to be part of Malayalam 'classics' canon are, 'Moonam Pakkam' and 'Olangal'. While 'Guru' and 'Kalapani' were big budget mvies, I don't think they achieved great commercial success nor are they considered as classics. The classic movies of Bharathan, Padmarajan, Hariharan / MTV, did not have music by Raja. The one association where there has been decent commercial success has been the one between Sathyan and Raja. Even here many feel Sathyan made better films earlier, when he teamed up with Sreenivasan being the scriptwriter. The other movies in the late 90s or 2000s did have an impact on the box office nor will they become classics. 'Friends' probably was a decent hit. Other than the films listed by raj, movies like 'Pachakuthira' and 'SMS' cannot even be termed bad!!! I love the songs of 'Ponmudipuzhayorathu' but as DR says only 'oru chiri kandal' was a hit. The movie sank without a trace. 'Pazhassiraja' is probably the only non Sathyan hit that Raja has in recent times in Malayalam.
This is in contrast to Telugu where he was associated with some of the biggest hits of Chiranjeevi, Raghavendar Rao and Kodandarami Reddy. He was also associated with films which have now become classics like 'Sagara Sangaman', Swati Muthyam', 'Siva' and Geetanjali'. Not to mention the films of Vamsi.
He never seems to have been too interested in Kannada and did very less films, some of which were decent hits.

latest one ?
Venmegam vinnil ...from "nan sigappu manithan". I was watching this movie a couple of days back in SUNtv...tears just flowed uncontrollably when the words "kanne naan annan alla unnai eendra annai naane " were sung...
simple setting...hero in suit and coat....heroine in saree...hero's sister in saree...melting tune by IR ..exceptionally emotive singing by SPB...what more can one ask for ? simple yet profoundly moving.....
