Pammalar Sir,
Many many thanks for your detailed 'Statistical Data' for the average run film 'SATHYAM' and overall analysis of the films released in 1976.
During first release I have watched it in Crown theatre at Mint area, in my small age (I am a die hard fan of Devika, next to our NT), and during the interval, 'coming soon Uththaman' slides were shown. I think even if sathyam did not caught by political crisis, it might not do much better, might be added 20 more days in all centres.
'Grahapravesam' being a family oriented subject, made an average run by the support of female audience. In Chennai it had released in good theatres ie Pilot, Agasthiya, Muralikrishna & Kamala.
Thanks to Srilankan fans for making 1976 a successful year for NT with one Silver Jubilee and two 100 days crossed films.
On going through, not only for NT, but generally 1976 is not a successful year for Tamil Cinema, except for Sivakumar (AnnakiLi, by the grace of IR).
MGR has released three films
Neethikku thalai vanangu
Uzaikkum karangaL
Oorukku uzaippavan
and out of them NTV only met 100 days in three centres.
Well expected, Kamal & KB allianced 'Manmadha Leelai' also ran for 70 days only.
In 1976, most of the die-hard NT fans were in old congress under leadership of P.Ramachandran, because of their affection with late Perundhalaivar Kamaraj. But when Old Congress leaders decided to join as Janatha Party, along with Bharathiya Jansangh (now BJP), an arch rival of congress, the woke up and returned to NT's camp from Deepam.
But in 1977 also two well expected movies 'ILaiya thalaimuRai', and 'Naam piRandha maN' not gone to a satisfactory level of the fans. (the first one was due to late release). We want to know about the running data of NPM also. Do you have any 50th day advertisement of 'naam piRandha maN'..?.
Sorry for disturbing you again. What to do?. 'thangam kidaikkiRa idaththaithAn manam thONda sollum..?'.
