I just read the news about Actor Vijayan's sudden dead in heart attack. I really shocked...my tearful condolences to his beloved family.
Well, infact all songs in Niram Maaratha Pookal is simply superb. My ever favorite is "Muthal Muthalaga" song for its fast beat & wonderful tune. Todays pick & "Iru Paravaigal" songs heart melting melodies. Undoubtably, Niram Maaratha Pookkal" is one of the super best of Ilayaraja's.

Apart from UdhipookkaL, Vijayan's role and performance were very good in OLi Pirandhadhu. Menaka and Gokulnath paired :-( Till half of the film, it was kept hidden that these two are married. Without knowing this, Vijayan, Mekavukku uruguvAr. Different film, thanks to K-TV.
How about Pasi? Vijayan did well in the Truck Driver role (along with Shobha and Delhi Ganesh)
Vijayan's spoil of career... enough said about his habits... but poor man, was away from his wife and daughter for long time. Read that his daughter's wedding was performed last month but he did not attend due to differences in family :-(
BTW, Alaiyagai adi song... sema "treat" for ears.. Kaa kaa kaa :lol:

The lyrics of "kalyANa kOvilin" has a literary quality that makes me think it was probably by Kannadasan. But in those days most of the songs had lyrics of high quality anyway. PS and SPB at their best. A great composition by KVM. I do feel the shades of "mullaippU pallakku" here and there. But "kalyANa kOvilin" takes more of a love song path while "mullaippU pallakku" is a totally exotic and sexy song.
Sathyam was one of the highly talked about films because it starred Sivaji and Kamalahasan. I think it did fairly well in the box office. At the moment I cannot remember the other songs from the film.

watched this movie recently. to answer your questions, yes, lyrics are by Kannadhasan.
Sivaji appears as a Nattaamai who is governed by his sense of honour. Kamal is his educated younger brother. Jaychitra is his murai penn. I have always found JC to be loud and she doesnt disappoint here either. But I have to concede that she had several good opportunities to shine. Kamal gets married to Manjula though.
Sivaji didnt get any good songs in Sathyam. pOttaanE oru pOdu avan kEttaanE oru kElvi was very pedestrian. but the songs for kamal - both kalyaana kOvilil deiveega kalasam, kangalil theryudhu thelivaaga and azhagaam kodi siridhu adhilum undhan idai siridhum, nadaiyaai nadandhu sendraal nalla idai vaadaadhO- were very good.
There is another sad version of kalyaana kOvilil deiveega kalasam by PS for Jaychitra after her failed love.

Heard that RRaja was under production for a longer time and had a delayed release in '76.
Also heard that the comedy part was the best, with Cho playing 3 roles (father, mother and son). Mother Cho comes with madisaar pudavai costume, it seems. Cho did it long back male actor in a female role (not disguised role like in Avvai shanmugi or ANazhagan). May be stage actrists have that guts.

madhu: what I meant was that many actors did change to female costumes etc etc to appear as female in some comic scenes. Ex: ThAikku oru piLLai (Cho). In RRaja, Cho acted in a full fledged female role itself. That is teh difference :-)
