I am yet again reminded of ramayana only. podalangai wrote a lovely post - one of the best I have read in the Hub - comparing the fire-test confrontation scenes in Valmiki and Kamban.
In the former Sita rues her fate and asked that the earth consume her. In Kamban she gives it back to Rama who had the audacity to suspect her and expresses annoyance that she had wasted her life guarding her virtue for such a man.

Actually the point is rather simple. All these (Paro is mad about Dev more than Dev is about her, Paro dancing with abandon after Dev ditches her, or what have you) will hold just as good even if she did get involved with someone else (by happenstance or for whatever reasons). It might have happened (if at all) arbitrarily under inexplicable circumstances. Or may be, as Maddy said, it was something "in the middle." It's quite clear that Sunil is greatly exaggerating what happened between him and Paro. Who is to judge? How does it automatically contradict Paro's love? The scene where Paro asks for the keys to Sunil's room establishes her love for Dev very well. "Mera Dev aa gayaa hai..." is all she tells Sunil, and it's as if the latter knew it all along.

Incidentally someone put this question to Kashyap himself during a rediff chat he had with his fans. I got to see this via the comments section of Baradwaj Rangan's blog.

Not in the absolute. That is the hypocrisy point Maddy is making. But in her given circumstances and characterization I think it does contradict.

'Something on the side' may not be much to Dev. But in my reading that isn't the case for Paro. That is why the mattress-cycle scene is an audacious testament of her mad love for Dev.

To put it another way... 'it becomes even more beautiful' if Paro had deemed it to be contradictory. It heightens the importance of 'mera Dev' and makes her revenge and Dev's loss exponentially more intense.

Now, what would you call an aesthetic expectation that attributes chauvinism and regressive tendencies to the characters. Is it itself chauvinistic. Maddy, remba yOsikka vachchuteenga...:-)

I beg to differ. Delhi-6 is MASTERSTROKE!!! I didnt like RDB but ROM have come with a very close socially oriented theme with perfect casting, meticulously crafted and the way he interlinked Ramayanam, religious fundamentalist is topnotch. I have to say that the ending is bit slack but not disoriented. I really dont know how else ROM/PJ/* the writers team or anyone could have ended it. Its a perfect movie for my liking and there are lot to be discovered scene by scene and Its warrants multiple viewings (which I hardly do) with subtitles. More than anything its bloo$y ORIGINAL! And I have to proudly say ROM have outclassed ARR's music.

OTOH, I dont intend to compare but Dev D in one line is a simple remake of an old saga. Whoever attempted for such contemporary versions might have ended in a similar fashion sex, drugs, betrayal, school girl molested, father suicide, mother's neglectfulness that leads the girl to prostitution for living and education... Nothing extraordinary in terms of screenplay and execution but soundtrack is archetype and rocks bigtime he certainly deserves a huge applaud!! Go Amit!

By the time the film ended , not many were questioning how it ended but rested content with a word of thanks that it did end.

yes, last time someone outclassed "thalaivar's" music was kalaprabhu
