தமிழ்நாட்டுல மட்டுமில்ல… கேரளாவிலும் ‘ஜில்லா’வுக்கான எதிர்பார்ப்பு எகிறிக் கிடக்கு. லால் சார்தான் ரிலீஸ் பண்றார். விஜய் சார் படம் பார்த்திட்டார். புன்னகை பூத்த முகத்துடன் தியேட்டரை விட்டு வெளியே வந்தவர், ‘ஹேப்பியா இருக்கேன். எனக்கு பிடிச்ச மாதிரியே எல்லா தரப்பு ரசிகர்களும் ரசிப்பாங்க’ன்னு சொல்லிட்டுக் கிளம்பினார். அப்படியே ஆகாயத்தில் பறக்குற மாதிரி இருந்துச்சு’’ – நெகிழ்வின் விளிம்பில் நின்று பேசுகிறார் இயக்குனர் நேசன்.‘‘ ‘ஜில்லா’வோட ஒரு வரிக் கதைகூட இதுவரை சொல்லலையே?’’
‘‘அதுக்கான காரணத்தை நீங்க படம் பார்க்கும்போது தெரிஞ்சுக்குவீங்க. இதுவரை யாருமே சொல்லாத கதை என்றெல்லாம் பில்டப் பண்ண நினைக்கல. நியாயமான ஒரு கதையை வித்தியாசமான கோணத்தில் சொல்ல டிரை பண்ணியிருக்கேன்… அவ்வளவுதான். ஒன்லைன் மட்டுமில்ல, யார் யாருக்கு என்னென்ன கேரக்டர்னு சொன்னா கூட
சஸ்பென்ஸ் உடைஞ்சி சுவாரஸ்யம் குறைஞ்சிடும். அதான் அடக்கி வாசிக்க வேண்டியதாயிருக்கு.
விஜய்யும் மோகன்லாலும் அப்பா – மகன், அண்ணன் – தம்பின்னெல்லாம் வெளியே புதுசு புதுசா கதை கசியுது. மதுரையில் ஒரு பவர்ஃபுல்லான ஆள்தான் லால் சார். அவருக்கும் விஜய் சாருக்கும் இடையே இருக்கும் இருபது வருட பழக்கம், அந்த உறவுகளுக்கிடையே ஊடுருவும் சில சூழ்நிலைகள்தான் படம். காதல், காமெடி, ஆக்ஷன், எமோஷன் எல்லாம் கலந்த கமர்ஷியல் ட்ரீட். கமர்ஷியல்னாலும் எந்த ஒரு விஷயமும் திரைக்கதையிலிருந்து சிதறிப் போகாம ஒரே நேர்கோட்டில் டிராவல் ஆகி ரசிகர்களை திருப்திப்படுத்தும்!’’
‘‘ ‘ஜில்லா’ன்னா?’’
‘‘மாவட்டத்தைக் குறிக்கும் பெயர் இல்லை. மதுரை ஏரியாவில் கெத்தா தெரியுற பசங்களை ‘ஜில்லா’ன்னுதான் பெயர் வச்சி கூப்பிடுறாங்க. அப்படி ஒரு கேரக்டர்தான் விஜய். படத்தில் விஜய்யோட கேரக்டர் பெயர் சக்தி. அவரோட பட்டப்பெயர்தான் ஜில்லா. சிவா என்கிற கேரக்டரில் மோகன்லால் வர்றார். ரெண்டு பேரும் சேர்ந்து சிவசக்தியா கலக்கியிருக்காங்க. விஜய் சாருக்கு பன்ச் வசனம் இல்லை. கதை என்ன கேட்டதோ அந்த எல்லை தாண்டாம அளவான, அழகான வசனங்கள்தான். அதில் யதார்த்தம் பளிச்சிடும். மதுரையில் ஒரு நிறுவனத்தில் வேலை பார்க்குற பொண்ணா காஜல் அகர்வால் பண்ணியிருக்காங்க. ‘துப்பாக்கி’யில விஜய் – காஜல் இடையே இருந்த அதே கெமிஸ்ட்ரி இதிலும் மிஸ் ஆகாம வந்திருக்கு…’’‘‘விஜய் – மோகன்லால் கெமிஸ்ட்ரி எப்படி?’’
‘‘அதுவும் சூப்பர்தான். இதுவரை விஜய் சொந்தக் குரலில் பாடின பாட்டெல்லாம் ஃபாஸ்ட் டிராக்கில்தான் இருக்கும். அவரை மெலடி பாட வைக்கலாமேன்னு ஐடியா பண்ணி, ‘கண்டாங்கி… கண்டாங்கி…’ என்கிற டூயட் பாட்டைப் பாட வச்சோம். லால் சார் கேட்டுட்டு, ‘சூப்பர் விஜய்’னு பாரட்டினார். லால் சாரும் மலையாளப் படங்களில் நிறைய பாடல்கள் பாடினவர். அவரே ரசிச்சு ரசிச்சு அந்தப் பாட்டைக் கேட்டு பாராட்டினதால விஜய் சார் ரொம்ப சந்தோஷப்பட்டார்.
ஒரு பாட்டில் விஜய், மோகன்லால் ரெண்டு பேருமே ஆடியிருக்காங்க. விஜய் சார் எப்படிப்பட்ட ஸ்டெப்பா இருந்தாலும் அசால்ட்டா ஆடிட்டு போயிடுவார். லால் சார் எப்படி பண்ணுவார்னு தெரியாது. பொள்ளாச்சியில் அந்த பாட்டை ஷூட் பண்ணினப்போ, லால் சார் ஆடினதைப் பார்த்துட்டு விஜய் அசந்துட்டார். கட் சொன்ன அடுத்த நிமிஷமே ஓடிப் போய் மோகன்லாலை கட்டிப் பிடிச்சு பாராட்டினார் விஜய். நிஜத்தில் இப்போ ரெண்டு பேருக்குமான நட்பு ரொம்ப இறுக்கமாயிடுச்சு!’’
‘‘மதுரை கதைன்னாலே வெட்டு, குத்து காட்சிகள் ஏகத்துக்கும் இருக்குமே?’’
‘‘மதுரை பின்னணியில் நடக்கிற மாதிரி கதைதானே தவிர, நீங்க நினைக்கிற மாதிரி வெட்டுக் குத்து காட்சிகள் துருத்திக்கிட்டு இருக்காது. மதுரையும் இப்போ மாடர்னா மாறியிருக்கு. மதுரையில இருக்கும் அண்ணா நகருக்கும் சென்னை அண்ணா நகருக்கும் வித்தியாசம் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாத அளவுக்கு இருக்கு.
புது கோணத்தில் மதுரையைக் காட்டியிருக்கோம். பொள்ளாச்சி, செங்கல்பட்டு, ஐதராபாத், ஜப்பான்னு நிறைய லொகேஷன்களில் ஷூட் பண்ணியிருக்கோம். ஜப்பானில் ஒசாகா, ஓபே என்று இரண்டு இடங்களில் பாடல் காட்சியை எடுத்திருக்கோம். ஆஸ்கர் விருதுபெற்ற ‘மெமோயிர்ஸ் ஆஃப் கெய்ஷா’ என்ற ஹாலிவுட் படத்துக்குப் பிறகு ‘ஜில்லா’ படத்தின் படப்பிடிப்புதான் அங்க நடந்திருக்கு. ஜப்பான் கலாசாரத்தை இன்றைக்கும் பறைசாற்றிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு கிராமத்திலும் ஷூட்டிங் நடத்தியிருக்கோம். 1950, 60களில் அகிரா குரோசாவா படத்தில் காட்டப்படும் ஊர் போல அது இருக்கும்.’’
‘‘சண்டைக் காட்சிகளிலும் விஜய் மெனக்கெட்டிருக்காராமே..?’’‘‘ஆமா. அசாதாரணமா அசத்தியிருக்கார். நொடிக்கு 2500 ஃபிரேம்களை கேப்சர் பண்ணும் கேமராவிலும், கேமராமேன் அரவிந்துக்கு சொந்தமான ஹெலிகேம் சண்டைக் காட்சிகளை எடுத்திருக்கோம். படத்தோட ஓபனிங் சண்டைக் காட்சிக்காக விஜய் நிறைய பயிற்சிகள் எடுத்துக்கிட்டார். கொஞ்சம் பிசகினாலும் பெரிய ஆபத்து நேரக்கூடிய காட்சிகளில் டூப் போடாம நடிச்சுக் கொடுத்திருக்கார்.
‘வேலாயுதம்’ படத்தில் நான் வேலை செய்யும்போதுதான் விஜய் சார் எனக்குப் பழக்கம் ஆனார். ‘முருகா’ன்னு ஒரு படத்தை இயக்கிட்டு அடுத்ததா ஒரு நல்ல வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்காதான்னு நான் ஏங்கிட்டு இருந்த சமயத்தில், ‘நீ என்னை வச்சு படம் பண்ணு’ன்னு விஜய் சார் இப்படி ஒரு வாய்ப்பு கொடுத்ததை என்னோட மறுபிறவியாதான் நினைக்கிறேன். அது வாய்ப்புன்னு சொல்றதைவிட வரம்ன்னுதான் சொல்லணும். தாங்க்ஸ் விஜய் சார்!’’

The first and foremost reason to sign Jilla is Vijay, then a quality production house like Super Good films. Of course a director like Nesan who chased me down and narrated an interesting script which had a big scope for me.
You are acting as a father for Vijay, don't you think it might affect your hero image?
When you are watching the film you won't think of the so called image, Jilla will have both the braveness and pride of Madurai locality.
Will the film satisfy both Vijay fans and your fans in Tamil Nadu and Kerala respectievely?
Not only Tamil Nadu Vijay is having a huge fan base in Kerala too. Jilla will be a sweet pongal for both the fans.
Your thoughts on Kerala and Tamil fans?
People of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are having same kind of relationship, emotions and culture. I think because of these similarities Tamil films in Kerala and Malayalam films in Tamil Nadu are running well at the box office.
About Your recent block buster Drishyam?
When the director narrated me Drishyam story there was a huge impact. Though the film didn't have any heroism the characterization was strong. Drishyam will be soon remade in Tamil and Telugu too.
About your relationship with Vijay?
Vijay has became a super star at a very young age but he never expressed any such attitude or tension of being a superstar. Vijay is having many good qualities like punctuality, discipline and hard work , because of possessing such rare qualities he has attained such a big growth. Though at beginning both me and Vijay maintained silence later we exchanged jovial conversations, now both of us have started visiting each others house and our friendship has developed a lot.
Have you seen Jilla?
Yes, me along with my wife watched Jilla. My wife is an open minded person and she will always say her honest comments, the good thing is that she enjoyed the film and called it super. Many also appreciated the intro song ' Sivanum Sakthiyum Sentha Mass da, especially the dance sequence between me and Vijay.
Your are releasing Jilla in Kerala, how big the release is going to be?
Yes, I will be releasing the film in Kerala and we are planning to release it in more than 300 screens. Jilla release date will be another Onam for Kerala people.

Jilla gets off to a rousing start and thrills the trade
With the release of Jilla just a few days away, we are getting reports that the distributors of the movie are mighty pleased with the advance booking reports of the movie. We hear that theaters in Madurai, Salem, Trichy, North Arcot and South Arcot are completely sold out for the first three days. This has elated the trade, no doubt.
Tomorrow, the film is set to be screened for the tax exemption committee and the producers would be hoping that they are granted the same. Jilla carries a U certificate and if it is granted tax exemption, then the business prospects of the movie will be pushed several notches higher. We will keep you posted.

On taking up Jilla…
The first reason is Vijay, for sure. Then comes the production house, Super Good Films. Why would I say no to an offer by a producer as reputed as RB Choudary?
Lastly, but most importantly, director Neason. He didn’t give up until I heard the script. I did and obviously loved it. I have a very strong character in the movie.
You are playing Vijay’s father in the movie. Aren’t you concerned about your image?
I play a typical Madurai man, fearless and heroic. The age would be an issue here, I guess.
You both have a large fan base. Will Jilla satisfy all of them?
Definitely. Vijay has a good fan base in Kerala too. I assure that this film will be a perfect Pongal entertainer.
Your take on the fans in Tamil Nadu and Kerala…
A strong relationship, emotional connect and tradition binds both Kerala and Tamil people. This relationship is 2000 years old. There’s no force strong enough to break this bond. That is the reason why Tamil films run successfully in Kerala and vice versa.
On the success of Drishyam…
Drishyam has an impactful content. It struck me deep the moment I heard it. There’s no heroism in the movie, but the characters are strong. The film is also being planned to be made in Tamil and Telugu.
Ilayathalapathy Vijay…
The most amazing fact is that, he achieved superstardom at a very young age. But, the best part is that he is so grounded for a superstar. One should learn to be punctual, disciplined and work hard like him. His dedicated fans are his awards for his good qualities. We weren’t very close when we started the project. But now, we visit each others’ homes on a regular basis.
Did you watch Jilla? How is it?
My wife and I watched the movie recently. Everyone loved the Sivanum Shakthiyum Serndha Massuda song. Most of all, my wife, who generally keeps things to herself, said she loved the movie.
About the Kerala release…
