I like all songs (including 7 vannam konda). This song - the prelude - is perfect "New age" music - எங்கேயோ கொண்டு போய்டுதில்ல ?

Parking lot listen this morning :
சங்கீத மேகம் தேன் சிந்தும் நேரம் ஆகாயம் பூக்கள் தூவும் காலம்
நாளை என் கீதமே எங்கும் உலாவுமே நாளை என் கீதமே எங்கும் உலாவுமே
என்றும் விழாவே என் வாழ்விலே
(படு ஜோரான எஸ் பி பி, உதய கீதம் படத்தில்)
It's possible that Puru was in-charge of the rhythm section (or played drums or both). What a flow! This song, pAdavA un pAdalai and such ones had that "running" kind of feeling evoked simply by drums (check out the prelude of this song or the second interlude of pAdavA un pAdalai for e.g.)
And combine that with some strong wind instruments and powerful string sections, you make people feel like they're sitting in a race car!
sangeetha mEgham's second interlude can easily compete for a place among the "all-time-top-ten" in TFM!
I don't get this kind of high with ANY of IR's new songs, though he should have access to all kinds of high tech. / better recording etc now.
They simply LACK energy! This has nothing to do with nostalgia, bias etc as I try to be 100% objective. (compare sangeetha megam with any of ponnar-sankar songs, for e.g.).
This has nothing to do with the singers as I'm talking mainly about prelude / interludes.
A great song from Kiratakudu:

I am unable to place the raga exactly. Somebody, please clarify.
Superb SPB apart, look at the way the drums complete the saraNam!
There's a karoke version of this song in the original LP record which was often used as "cassette end filler" by recording centers and one can hear them often on buses etc.
The energy of the drums adi (tam-tum-dam-dachchAAing) for the 'நான் தான் சகல கலா வல்லவன்' part - I don't remember listening to something powerful like that recently...it's mostly "tsk-tsk" stuff :-(
App anna and Raj
I dont know if you guys recall a film called 'Inisai mazhai' , it sort came in the mid 90's, it had superb drum beats !
here are few songs from there, again by SPB
1) Vaa vaaaa Kanmanee vaa vaaaa ah kanmanieee
2) Holi holi manathil oru holi Jali Jaali,
3) Adi nethiravu nadantha thenu neeyarivaiyO
Amazing Composition by IR and No words to Describe SPB 's singing!
Via my friend Rajeev on twitter, now listening to this song, 'mogha sangeetham'. The very start tells you that this is a 70s Raja song. The guitar work is amazing as usual, as is the very simple and catchy tune. I am sure songs like these ensure people like Plum stay rooted in this late 70s period. (Honestly I don't know if this is indeed a late 70s movie but the music suggests it.)
Listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/kssuka#p/u/14/AUdnE7Sxf-E
One of the best songs of Innisai Mazhi is 'Mangai Nee Mangani'
Just noticed that the youtube link that I had given is a channel of kssuka, who happens to be the director of 'Padithurai'. He seems to have uploaded some lovely songs here. Some of the songs are listed by the ragas in which they are composed. This channel is worth subscribing to.

just went on a trip to "manavaadu land" and came up with this gem. first time i am hearing this song.. Very nice rhythm and nice string works in the first interlude - so typical 90s Raaja..
perfection personified..
Ha ha ha ha haaaaa.
Listen to this song and would be amazed at how your face manufactures a smile.. Prabhudeva's choreography does the rest with Venkatesh's charm..

One more song to be locked into the "funky loony tunes of raaja collection"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHQF5uO9qP8&NR=1
one more telugu waltz..
SPB - playfulness in the rendition - vera yaaru irukkaa ippo?
from the same movie..
papa eedu gola.. the prelude is so beautiful..
classy guitars joining hands with the brass trumpets.. beautifull
The beautiful breezy orchestration for 90s - those light weight guital+violins+ soft beats - really it marks the late 80s and 90s so well. Something to really remember.

To Suresh and all divyabharathi fans
Chittigumapadhave..
I was looking for this song for a while.. Beautiful transitions in charanam the raaga morphing that Raaja is well known for..

I was just relating this song with "papa kahtein " from Qayamat se Qayamat tak...The pallavi resembles the charanams of that hindi song in some way?
Again I have found the same with "Ek Do theen " and "Maru Go Maru Go" song
The Mankai nee song from "Inisai Mazhai" also has shades of "Mein Shayar to nahin" from Bobby
Suresh65,
Thanks for taking me back on a nostalgic journey.
"Moga Sangeetham" is from the 1978 Sivakumar, Sumithra starrer "Kannan Oru Kaikkuzhandhai". Another unremarkable film of the late 70s that history will remember purely for Raaja's magic (1978 alone, I can recall more than 10 such duds that, if not for Raaja's contribution, would be consigned to the dustbin of film history). Has a collection of lovely songs - apart from Susheela's "Moga Sangeetham" that you've recalled, the album features the smooth-as-silk "Thendrale Thoothaagavaa" by SPB & Susheela which hogged a lot of airtime those days, Vani Jayaram's breezy club song "Kannan Aruge Paadave", and 2 very short male solos - SPB's "Kaalayilam Parithiyile", and Raaja's pathos "Vayitril Sumandhaval".
Well, you spoilt my early morning start at work. Sent me reaching for my 78 collection, wistful memories..
Suresh,
Thanks for the info. My knowledge of those years as far as Tamil cinema is concerned is close to NIL. Will now listen to the other songs in this movie as well.
I am sure the day would have unfolded very well for you, if you leave aside the work related matters :)
Jai,
'Surya IPS' is aterrific album which I keep listening often. The movie per se, though it starred Venkatesh and Vijayasanthi, both leading actors of those time, was a third rate one. I endured the movie mainly because of the songs. Something typical of many movies Raja has given music to :)
And thanks for the Divya Bharathi video. Been a while since I heard this song,
As Suresh rightly pointed out,KS Suka's youtube page is flooded with Raja gems (mostly late 70's and early 80's)..
2 Youtube pages one should definitely subscribe if you r a Early Rajas lover are Mr KS Suka's and Mightymusicians(Audio Quality is gr8)

here you go Raj, amazing Drums beat , I think it is that Siva mani the (drum specialist) on the drums, just listen to SPB sir when he hits High Octave (Octave 8) ! . Once you have heard it pls post your views, I was crazy about this song, when I was a kid in school. Used to put it on full blast in my dad's car

Talking about Energetic songs of Raja, one should not forget 'mEgam kottatum aAtam undu' From a Kamal movie(can't remember the name now  ), sung by SPB.
SPB blasts in high notes with an amazing stamina :notworthy:
Jai was asking about MohanBabu - Raja combination earlier. Here is a nice Saibaba song from his film 'Kuntriputrudu'. Sung very well by SPB. Based on Madhyamavathi / Brindavana Saranga. (Via a friend in facebook)

1. holi holi holi is from Raasukutty
2. Om Sivoham has some annoyingly feeble synth(?) percussion or thAmbALam beats
3. Innisai Mazhai probably didnt have Mamta Kulkarni. Wasnt that NanbargaL by Shoba Chandrasekar?- music by one of the Manoj-Gyan duo I think
suresh(not sikkan 65 suresh), are you a old timer? The one who wrote about Fazil's Poove Poochadavaa and its original and the resonance to your personal life of that movie?
Simply wonderful!!
The caption said the movie was 2003. looked more 93 to me - all the instrumentation, sound, everything was 1993 time period ... Very good song.. I will add this to my "everyday listen" collection.
On the same note I would like to remind everyone of the other Saibaaba song sung by Yesappu..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ7osP5-nNA
from the movie shirdi sai mahathyam..
Staying with Brindavana saranga.. Here is one from "Pudhiya Ragam" a Jayachitra terror movie..
http://thiraipaadal.com/tpplayer.asp...921%27&lang=en
Thanks Sureshji!!! what a wonderful day that begins with these songs..
Jai,
Was sure you would like that song. As you rightly put it, Raja has given the 90s feel to the song.
All the songs of 'Shirdi Sai Mahathyam' are terrific, though I heard only a couple of them when it was released. Had to make up later!!!
And when it comes to ragas like Madhyamavathi / Brindavana Saranga or Suddha Saveri, Raja never goes wrong and all the while gives us newer insights into these ragas. Mano sings the song quite well, I say.
And while staying on the devotional songs, here is a superb one from 'Yedukondala Swamy': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzanA_DM1KA
Veering away from Devotional, I came across this album. "Kaadhal Oivathillai" *ing Karthik and Ramya krishnan.

I am taken in by the song "Kadal Mele Alai " song (2nd song). The swagger put on by SPB has to be heard to be believed.
When I listen to the 3rd song I see so much of "T.Rajendar" and ":Devendran" of those times (80s). The second interlude violin quells my doubt (along with SPB and SJ saying lalalala in the charanam). One more interesting album from Raaja that I havent heard..
Lovers of classical carnatic and hindustani (Is it Hamsadwani?) would find the 3rd song "Raaja Mohini" enticing and spell binding.. It has a distinct "Telugu" feel to it. I am not able to pin reasons why...
Jaiganes,
- Deivangal kann parthadhu - 2 time um adhae koduthu irukeenga..
kadhal oivadhilai film a.......
Every one over here seems to be full of praises for SPB, but none of you even take part in SPB threads, even the SPB + IR Thread :| :(
