The next film in the Russian film series is ‘Pokrovsky Gates’. A 1982 comedy directed by Mikhail Kozakov, it stars Oleg Menshikov, Leonid Bronevoy and Inna Ulyanova. The title refers to a square on Moscow’s Boulevard Ring near which the film’s main characters reside. It comically portrays the relationships between the families in a communal apartment in the Russian capital. The film will have Tamil subtitles.

Makkal TV has lined up some interesting programmes for May Day. At 6.30 a.m., ‘Special Naalkaatti’ highlights the historic importance of International Labour Day. An interview with some writers involved in Red literature will be telecast at 7.00 a.m., as part of ‘Tamilkoodal’.
A poetry forum, ‘Vaervai Pookkal’, on the uniqueness of workers across the world will be telecast at 8.30 a.m. ‘Vaazhththugal’, a live phone-in programme at 9 a.m., will facilitate workers of the world to share Labour Day wishes with friends and relatives. At 10.30 a.m., ‘Sumaithaangi’ will discuss the life of the railway porters.
‘Kaelvikku Enna Badhil’ will discuss labour rights and the current status of working environment in various industries at 11.00 a.m.
A model parliament will be presented by children at 12 noon.
Watch interviews with first generation entrepreneurs at 1.00 p.m. in ‘Uzhaipoam Uyarnthoam.’
At 2 p.m., ‘Struggle for Motherland’, a Russian film, will be telecast.
At 6 p.m., a musical presentation of Jeeva’s poems can be watched in ‘Isaiyamudhu’. At 6.30 p.m., a special edition of ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’ will be telecast. The programme will show how the unfulfilled dreams of some workers are turned into reality.
The Snow Queen

The film is based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The script is by well-known Russian writer Yevgheny Schwartz. A touching story of love, human kindness and faithfulness to one’s duty, it is about a little girl, Herda. She is looking for her friend, Kai, kidnapped by a wicked fairy, the Snow Queen. Travelling in search of her friend, Herda finds herself in the castle of a sly and treacherous, though funny, king and gets acquainted with robbers in the forest. The girl meets many obstacles on her way before she faces a decisive battle with the Snow Queen.
Pennae Nee

This programme is a pro-active platform for women to showcase their talents, get legal and medical advice. Also showcased are some women achievers, who share their success stories and the challenges they faced. The programme is hosted by Yaazhini.
