Neel,
Dhool's Sara reminded me 80's vintage Andharangam Oomaiyaanadhu album. MIO, Raaga etc.. don't host that album. Can you host songs from that album in near future.

Superb pick, Neel! The song is packed with so many bit & pieces, breaks & pauses that I can almost visualise the song (but obviously I may be disappointed if I see the movie). The flute interlude is a very nice delineation of the raga. MSV kalakki irukkaar. Love to listen more from this album. I've heard Ninnaye rathiyendru - lovely song.

Y'all,
I will be featuring several interesting film stories the next few weeks. Hope y'all enjoy it. The films may be old. But they are still new to those who have not watched it. Hence, there will be a spoiler alert before the end of the story is revealed. You can choose to skip the portion following the alert if you do not want the suspense spoiled. :)
Pick #598
Song: vA iLaiyavanE
Film: Malare Kurinji Malare
Music: M.A.Raveendran
Singers: K.J.Yesudas, K.S.Chithra
Lyrics: ?
Year: 1993
Today's pick is a nice light classical. Overall it is a good album from M.A.Raveendran. He delivers what is expected of him.
"Malare Kurinji Malare" starred a newcomer R.Venkatesh and Seetha in the lead. The story of the film had all the usual, predictable turns and twists. Seetha is a college student and the daughter of a rich man (Senthamarai). Venkatesh is a poor man who works as a manager(more like a personal assistant) to Senthamarai. Seetha initally does not like Venkatesh but then starts liking Venkatesh and slowly falls in love with him. Her change of mind happens because he saves her from a bunch of street thugs, then he saves her from her muRaippayyan who tries to rape her, and rejects Seetha's friend Disco Shanthi's advances towards him.
While this is going on Senthamarai's sister gets in an auto accident. Right before she dies from her injury she asks Senthamarai to give his daughter in marriage to her son. Senthamarai agrees. But when Senthamarai finds out that Seetha is in love with Venkatesh he asks Venkatesh to leave town and gives him a lot of money to disappear. Venkatesh rejects the money and leaves. Seetha finds out what happened, goes after him and brings him back. But Senthamarai is stubborn that he is a man of his words. He goes on to arrange Seetha's marriage to the son of his dead sister.
SPOILER ALERT! Do not read the next paragraph if you do not want to know how the film ends.
Under heavy pressure and sentimental blackmail Seetha finally gives in to her father's wish. She tells him that she will agree to his wish as long as he won't hurt Venkatesh. But Senthamarai has already hired thugs to beat up Venkatesh in an effort to scare him out of town. Seetha's wedding ceremony begins. Venkatesh comes running to the wedding hall, all beaten up and soaked in blood. Seetha gets up from the maNavaRai and runs to Venkatesh. Cries and tells him she has consumed poison, leans on his chest and dies. Venkatesh lectures Seetha's parents on how their stubbornness and stupidity ended the life of their daughter. Then he picks up a knife, slashes his own neck and dies. With the two lying dead on the floor the film ends like all other love tragedies that came before it.
SPOILER ENDS!
M.A.Raveendran composed some more nice songs for the film:
kAthal paingkiLiyE - KSC
AththOram thOppukkuruvi - Mano & KSC
kAman kathai padikkum - KSC

Let me see how many movies you can motivate me to watch in your list.
I prefer movies like

Thillu mullu,Andha 7 natkal, kudiyirundha koyil, karagattakaran, Vennira aadai, panakkara kudumbum , chandrodhayam, Sathi Leelavathi etc..
I watch a movie konjam konjamaa for more than one week when I rent a dvd/tape  . I watch the songs several times.:)
vinatha.
baroque, you are welcome.
Y'all,
Just a clarification... I am posting the story only to give some background and context to the song, and hopefully keep it interesting. It is not a review of the film and is not meant to influence a prospective viewer one way or the other. The story is meant to add another dimension to the song and hopefully enhance the listening experience. This thread is still about songs (and the film within the context of the song). Not about films. Thanks!
