Paadi vaa thendrale is one P.Jayachandran song I remember having heard often in my younger days..
The story is pretty neat one. Sarath babu plays one of those numerous "Thyaagi doctor" roles in 1980s.
Happy that I found this one.. Raaga collection of Raaja albums is "impressive".
The second song "Thennang keethum" is a mild erotic song (need to move it to the Bala(Karthig) thread for appropriate discussion).
which reminds the listener of "Poovai eduththu oru " song from Amman Koil Kizhakkaale. The beauty of the song is primarily from the
use of mrudangam and Malaysia Vasu's deep vocals. P.Suseela does a Vani Jayaram and is absolutely "head mistress"like.
The rocking song of the album title is reserved for the tribal fun song "aathangarai thoppukkuLe" the wild variety of flutes and rhythm patterns
are mind boggling. And add the bass with its incessant chatter makes for interesting listening - and offcourse Malaysia and Shailaja T off aptly in this
song.
Pretty Awesome album.
I was listening to "SMS" songs this morning and felt that a couple of songs could have really made it to the top. The movie bombed and hence the songs went unnoticed.
Bhavatharini singing "Shuba Niyogam" is a sweet melody. Kadapurathu is vintage raja!
The best song in terms of tune and instrumentals was "Ponathevide" sung by raja himself. The only issue is raja's strained voice in the charanam. Not sure why raja chose to sing this song, though the song has its own good moments........but barring that glitch,,the song is a treat.

RM,
According to me, 'SMS' (Malayalam) has three songs which I keep listening often. Bhava's "Shubha Niyogam" is a wonderful bhajan type melody. 'povadevide' is an amazing tune and when I saw the picturization of it on some old person, Raja's voice makes sense. Then there is that energetic 'kadaputathoru kadapurathoru'. When you see the picturization of this song, you have no choice but to shed tears.
Still remember our own Rajasaranam, a glutton for punishment, who went to see this movie because of Raja's music and ended up smoking outside the theatre most of the time, according to what he posted here long time back!!!
Folks
Listen to this SPB's Gem, SPB+Salman Khan = Chartbusters. Now coming to this song, I heard it was an Orginal IR song from some telugu movie, any links to the telugu version of this song pls ?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oinf...yer_detailpage
Here you go Params - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fUD5jOkTZ8
By the by, to which MD is this indhi freemake credited to? Annu Mallik? Jatin/lalit?
Anand Milind
Suresh,
Watching that movie is a real punishment :) But I think the songs had come out really well.
Ponathevide is a wonderful song (though I have never seen the visuals) and as you said it makes sense if it's an old person...Shuba Niyogam is as good as the above...Bhava had done a fantastic job..
I have never taken time to listen to this album, but now I feel that if this movie was a bit sensible, the songs should have been another feather in raja's cap...!
True, RM. That has been the story of Raja's life for the past few years!! Except for Sathyan films and for a 'Paa' or a 'Pazhassi Raja', the movies have been a great letdown. Movies like 'Valmiki', where every single song has been good turned out to be pathetic movies. Same with movies like 'Suryakanthi'. None of them created an impact on the box office.
I am happy you have got to 'SMS' now :)
Poovar Senni Mannan from Thiruvasagam.
a very powerful song indeed

Puthu Mapillaiku - Aboorva Sagotharargal
What a funky&energetic song in the Rock'n'Roll Genre..one of my all time favourites..The chorus in the prelude with the trumpet by the side, the brilliant high octane singing of SPB..The change of scale from minor to major..a bit of bass sprinkled in between..But the best is the chromatics movement..
Note the 1st interlude where he has literally played with the notes..the chromatics keep rotating up and down giving an extra pep and also not to forget during the 2nd interlude where the Rock n roll in the background beautifully complements the chromatics..counterpoint too in the side gap :)
Sheer stuff of genius..
Kudos to Dilsoft of Twitter for uploading this in stereo quality..

Oru Kadhal Enbathu - Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi
This movie Gangai Amaran is credited as the MD,but then if you hear the bass line and ludes that Ilaiyaraja stamp cannot be missed..Recently GA clarified that this song alone from the movie was done by IR but his name didnt appear in the credits..Check out the video where he says such a sound can be produced only by the Maestro ..
Song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw1YthmRbek&feature=fvsr
GA's clarification - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jUjQGxqG2Y
Thanks skr for sharing such a beautiful song!. More than that , it is great to hear GA saying that he also used the same instruments, instrumentalists but that effect/impact of IR's creation didn't happen (inspite of he being always with him). It's all God's gift and really appreciate GA acknowledging it. Another interesting thing to note that eventhough IR composed this song and he was not credited, there shows Raja's love, affection he has for relations.
The anecdote by Deepan Chakravarthi about Vani Jayaram and how to get perfect pitch/sruthi is very interesting. Seems Vani Jayaram mentions singing in Subhapanthuvarali improves the pitch/sruthi. Very good information.
Thanks for the great share!
Thanks skr for sharing this great piece of info. Oru Kadhal Enbadhu is a beautiful song and when I knew it had music by Gangai Amaran couldn't believe it really. It feels really satisfying now to listen to that song knowing it was done by IR. It's great that Gangai Amaran chose to reveal that publicly, hats off to him.

Tamizh-le peesatha wife, intha paattai keetttu, keettu, partu partu manapadam panunangga....and the damn song is playing in loops in my head. Okay, I shouldn't complain, nice song. Sort of finer version of Aasai Kiliye from TEO.
'AththOram kAththAda oru Asa thONudhu' was a college-time fav. engEyO kEtta kural got released on the same day as sakala kalA vallavan. Though pattu vaNNa sElaikkAri and this song (along with IR's rehash of a church hymn 'dEvanE nAn umadhaNdaiyil' into 'nAn thAyumAnEn thanga iLa mAnE') had decent air time on radio, they were almost totally eclipsed in other places (buses / teakkadais / functions / kOlAmbi speakers etc) due to SKV.
The guitar "sound" in this song is one of my all-time-favourite "sounds" among IR indulgences.
By the way, App, did EkK get good run. I know SKV was a huge hit. EKK is my mom's fav Rajini film, by the way.
Engeyo Ketta Kural was remade in telugu and hindi too.
Jeetendra acted in the hindi version with Sridevi doing the ambica role.
My take away from the movie is the "chemistry" between Delhi Ganesh and Rajini - one of the more subtle and beautiful portrayals by both actors. Offcourse his performance in
the climax (lifting ambica's dead body and cremating single handedly) pretty well done for a movie from a supposedly masala director.
App - grouch unga next roomla irundhArA?
