Sun Pictures to fund Mani's Ponniyin Selvan?
The Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Sun Pictures are going to produce Mani Ratnam's next project in Tamil Kalki's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, a period drama!
It is said to be a big budget extravaganza which industry sources say would cost a whopping Rs 200 Crore plus. Jayamohan is said to be penning the dialogues, which would be a full 鈥揻ledged adaptation of the novel. There are strong rumours that Ilayaraja may team up again with Mani.
Ponniyin Selvan, is a fictionalised account of Chola King RajaRaja 1 and one of the greatest works of Tamil literature, penned by arguably the most celebrated writer, Kalki. The star cast and other details are being worked out on the film which is in pre-production.
The news of Mani with IR, if it is real, it will turn into a joyful celebrations to all cinema lovers, since there combination given fruitful songs which a man can never imagine.
Now we have to wait, the concerned should leave their ego and work for the epic to touch the silver screen with Maestro's masterly creative music.

I also am inclined to think of the 'Ponniyin Selvan' news as a rumour. Looks like the concerned reporter did some 'kootal kazhithal' of his own and came up with the news. Not sure what deadlines that poor fellow had to meet!!
Personally I wouldn't feel it is a bad idea. Especially given Raja's record in blockbuster movies. He has done one for Mani in 'Dhalapathy'. And the songs of 'Pazhassi Raja' are incredible. And no one, just simply no one, currently can captured the period like he can.
Having said that, I still feel the news is just gossip. I am not even sure if 'Ponniyin Selvan' will be done. Leave alone Mani-Raja combination!!
