A R Rahman pleases his fans
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, April 05, 2007]
The most-awaited album of the year Shivaji was released in Kerala last week.
In the film Sivaji -- The Boss which has the biggest Tamil cinema stalwarts lined up under highly reputed AVM banner -- director Shankar, lyricists Valee, Vairamuthu, Pa Vijay, Muthukumar, superstar Rajinikanth in the title role, the composer A R Rahman has lived up to his name has delivered half a dozen songs which will be chart toppers for the season.
A R Rahman's compositions fly ahead of the trends, as usual by a trend setter, but the lyricists have milked Rajnikanth's screen image to the fullest painting a larger than life picture of the hero comparing him to the sun, moon and even Shiva the destroyer with lines like 'he can even turn Tamil Nadu into Americas.'
Thousands of albums were sold from each major outlet in the first couple of days in the state and this is good news especially when concerns were expressed about the lean phases of music industry.

Record created by 'Sivaji' audio sales
'Sivaji' is set to create many a record. In just one day after the audio got released, the sales was enormous.
The audio sales is located in Chennai's Ritchie Street. To buy the cassettes and CDs, dealers and fans from out of town thronged into the street the earlier night itself. The morning saw a densely crowded street. The cassettes and CDs brought in vans were sold out as soon as they were loaded off. Small shops also did great sales.
Milk abhishekham and aarathi for Rajini photos by fans, gave a festive atmosphere. Since 3 songs were already available on the Internet, the fact that the audio sales was such a sell out is a feat indeed. AVM had sent 2 lakhs each of cassettes and CDs and by afternoon, all were sold out.
Such a response to audio sales has hitherto not been seen. In 'Sivaji,' there are 2 songs the fans can dance to and 2 songs for them to sing along and enjoy. "Oru koodai sunlight, oru koodai moonlight..." and "Sachin adichaa sixer thaandaa, Sivaji adichaa puncture thaandaa.." will make one want to dance. Hummable tunes are "Sahara pookkalum..." and 'Vaaji vaaji vaaji en jeevan nee Sivaji."
The 'Sivaji' songs were broadcast on all FM stations the night before audio release. A Rajini fan says this is a 'small' welcome for the film that is to be released soon.
Then imagine what it would be like the day 'Sivaji' gets released. It is mind boggling!
Shivaji is like no other Indian Film
By: Settu Shankar
Wednesday, April 04, 2007
'All the roads lead to Rome' is an old proverb. 'All the people's and the media attention is only on Shivaji is the new proverb in south Indian cinema. This is no exaggeration. The entire state of Tamil Nadu is going crazy about Shivaji after the audio launch of the film. Young boys and college students have been seen changing their hairstyles like Rajini's in the film immediately after the release of some photographs from Shivaji. Many ardent fans of Rajini purchased the CDs and cassettes with their own money and supplied them to their neighbours free of cost! At the same time, some people sold the CDs in black market for Rs.250 today as the demand was greater than the supply. Nearly 80,000 CDs got sold out on the second day, and the sellers have requested the production house to send another 1 lakh CDs to meet the increasing demand.
According to the 'Music World' show room manager, people are prefering to purchase CDs rather than cassettes. He told us that he has seen more crowd today than on Monday when the audio was formally launched. AVM sources say that its audio distribution wing has supplied nearly 5 lakhs audio CDs and cassettes all over south India. They also say that there is an amazing response for the audio in Mumbai as well. According to them, more than 38 thousand audio CDs were sold in Kerala only. This is for the very first time that an audio in a different language has sold in the state in such a huge number, they claimed.
CD Sellers of Chennai Ritchie Street, the whole sale audio marketers for the entire south, told us that they had never seen such a high demand for a film's audio in the past 25 years. Pradeep of Supreme audio said, "On Monday, I opened my shop at 5 in the morning. When I reached there, there was a long queue waiting to purchase the Shivaji audio in front my two shops. It was quite unbelievable. One person, who had come there with a mini CD player, listened to the songs on the spot. He distributed sweets to the gathering there immediately after he felt satisfied with the Shivaji songs. This is really amazing, and I have never experienced any thing like it. The whowle country hasnt experienced anything like this. The super star has breathed a new life into the audio market through his film Shivaji. There is no doubt that Rajini has always ruled southern cinema and he is the real super star in the country!"
Probably going withe present hype, AVM Productions has plans to bring out a short film about the making of the film. No other Indian film has created so much hype like Shivaji has done in India or abroad. This film will be an unforgettable one for its producer AVM Saravanan, who is going to complete his 50th anniversary in film production. Before Shivaji, he has worked with the Superstar in 8 films. Before this, none of his films have made excited him so much neither has any of his films made him as proud as Shivaji has. In fact Shivaji, alias Rajini, has given a new life to the legendary production house on its 70th anniversary. Before the announcement of Shivaji, there was distribution of the ownership rights of the AVM Studios between the AVM brothers. AVM Saravanan got a lesser portion of the Studio premises. At this critical situation, he gave away the entire rights of the Tamil films produced under AVM banner to his younger brother AVM. Balasubramanian.
At a time when Saravanan was planning for some other projects to survive in the industry, Rajini came forward to allot his prestigious call sheets. He recommended Shankar's name to direct Shivaji. After the formal announcement of this project, the entire industry was up and about. There are hundreds and thousands of news, gossips, and debates doing the rounds about this film in the media, as well as the public. It is Shivaji, which has kept online journalists always in alert. For the first time in the world, some of the portals 'released' the complete songs of the movie with lyric notes online. But the curiosity for this film hasn't faded due to this leak. Infact, it has helped a lot in the film's overseas popularity, in a different way.
Keeping all these facts in mind, AVM Saravanan has asked the director to shoot a film on the making of Shivaji, simultaneously with the film. This film might feature all the stars including the 'King of Southern Cinema' Rajini and the director Shankar. Other technicians, including the incredible A.R. Rahman, cameraman, lyricists, dance masters, stunt masters...will share their unforgettable moments of association with Rajini and the film, Shivaji, in this curtain-raiser. The crew has titled this as 'Making of Shivaji - The Boss' and it will be of one hour in length. The CD and DVD of this short film will be circulated to the press at the time of Shivaji preview. AVM has planned to circulate the CDs to the outlets for sale, a after few days of the release of the film.

Shivaji album focuses on Rajni’s charisma
The audio is out and the verdict as well. Super Star’s Rajnikanth’s Shivaji directed by Shankar contains songs written by top tamil film composers which eulogises the film persona and charisma of the Super Star than relating to the character he plays in the film. In short, these lyrics are penned with Rajni’s charisma in mind and does not in any way compare to the lyrics written for other films directed by Shankar which revolved more around the film and its story content. And the verdict is: it is a sure fire hit with Rajni fans.
The audio of Shivaji was officially out on April 2. Though three songs of the film were released through some websites in an unauthorised manner, there was a great demand for the cassettes and CDs of the film. And all the songs of the film seems to have been liked by Rajni fans who look for songs that eulogises his personality and charisma. And A R Rehman’s music compositions have also done wonders in creating the right magic for the album.
Take the case of Oru Koodal Sunlight number. The lyrics of the song have been written by lyricist P Vijay keeping Rajni’s mannerisms and styles in mind. And Vijay creates a new phrase to describe the Rajni persona. He is ‘Heeraththil Hero’. You can draw your own conclusions as heera means diamond. It looks like Rajnikanth wants to echo his own feelings in the song written by Na Muthukumar. The foot tapping number Balleilakka song rendered by SPB reminds you of Rehman’s earlier song composition ‘Veerapandi Kottayile’ in
Thiruda Thiruda . After eulogising the Tamil and Tamilian, the lyricist goes ga ga in describing the super star. He is called as Shiva, the destroyer, Sun and Moon and what not. He can also turn Tamil Nadu into America, says the lyrics which is intended to satisfy the large section of Rajni fans who want him to make an entry in to politics. (Annan Vandha Tamil Nadu America). Another song by Na Muthukumar has this punch line which describes the Rajini as a person who can gobble up a lion like a jalebi. And there is also another punchline; “Sachin adicha sixer thaan da, Sivaji adicha puncher thaan da.” Veteran writers Vairamuththu and Vaali have also written lyrics for the film. Vairamuthu’s song Sahana has all the ingredients to become a chart buster and even a highly impressed Rajnikanth has congratulated Vyramuththu. Veteran Vaali’s lyrics for his song may well look like a song written by an enthusiastic Rajni fan of 20. The song has lyrics that is made up of film titles of Rajnikanth starrers.
I agree! This album has a lot to offer to everybody! Massy beats and some total western hip-hop/rock kinda beats as well... ARR has played it very smart here! :thumbsup:Quote:
