IR's Song Of The Day - Part 2.

Usha, I really do not know anything about carnatic raagams. As Suresh was curious to know the scale, I just quoted what others have mentioned in the forum. There are only a few raagams (like hamsanandam, chakravagam, etc) that I can feel the essence, otherwise I am nil. But I sincerely want to learn though.

When a song strikes me with its freshness, i really get curious to know its raagam. So was the case with "Unnai Thedi" song.

BTW, have you guys listened to "Kooda Varuviya" song from the latest "Valmiki" album? Give it a try. Not sure if its available online. New albums section has links to mp3.

Aaah. A song I have heard earlier. Not sure where I heard it though. Must be in some Chitra compilation. Lovely song.

As Usha says, the Madhyamavathi / Brindavana Saranga songs are very melodious. I don't recall the song offhand but there is another such song by P Susheela, which is about a mother singing, and that is based on Brindavana Saranga. Maybe these ragas bring out the Karunya rasam better.

This song has Amazing Interludes, Harmonic Vocal backings and arrangement with WCM elements ....
And especially , I love the mesmerising Obligatos played by Strings in both charanams .

'Endaro Mahanubavulu' is also nice. Raja seems to take the Tyagaraja keertana and then modifies it. I am not sure if the whole song is in Sriragam though.
