Confirmed : Chiranjeevi's 150th film will be directed by Puri Jaganath titled as 'Auto Johny' | Releasing this January 2016 Biggest Battle across the Southern India - Superstar Rajinikanth vs Megastar Chiranjeevi : January 2016 (Tentative)
chandramukhi periya success.. Kanchanana 2 kooda thaan massive blockbuster .. jyothika, vadivelu and other masala elements worked.. yes, but that was 10 years ago !! now Rajini's masala movie competitor is Vijay .. so compare Lingaa to Kaththi ..
Vijay and Surya have eroded into Rajini's family audience base..
Ajith and Vijay have put a big dent in Rajini's mass base.. 10 years munnaadi nadantha history ellaam pesikkittu.. then i will talk about Sakalakala Vallavan, Thevar Magan, Apoorva Sagotharargal, Indian etc ..
Yes, agree "even " the likes of "SivaKarthikeyan / Lawrence" have taken over this "talentless king of FLOPS" !
This is what I have to say on this - with everything being the same (content, director, MD, heroines etc.), Rajini will certainly pull in more in the box office than anybody else at the moment. We cant compare a move like Lingaa and Kaththi ..
.. we need to compare blockbusters of both heroes or flops of both. Cant mix up for our convenience. Eg. Endhiran vs. Kaththi (or I) - Endhiran grossed far more than either (actually any tamil movie) Or. Lingaa vs. Sura/billa2 - Lingaa grossed much more than either. Or a hypothetical scenario of anybody in place of Rajini in Endhiran - would it have grossed 300C in the box office ?? I dont think so .. There's no denying that Rajini's is still at top.

Joythika , vadivelu ellam ulla kondu varreengaa...Correlation pandrandra perla you are trying to dilute everything... This is just for your comparison....then If you want to speak about kamal's BO power you have to 25 to 30 years...
I always accept changes will come and new generation will emerge but as actor/star rajini still stand tall among everyone....
As I mentioned in the past, It'll become tough for both rajini and kamal as indian population is becoming more and more younger... As per forecast, India would be the youngest nation in the world (at present mean/median age is about 27) by 2020. This means the new generation will become the core constituency of movie goers. it will be interesting to see if both of them active in industry.
Avadi to America - the same young population/ generation is also accessing world cinema like it never did before - which means they are familiar with ideas and formats and won't be satisfied with standard nonsense or charisma or staccato style film-making etc
The art of story-telling wont wither away but we have few with the skill sets to tell stories....no amount of SFX or other gimmickry will/can replace story telling concepts..(songs will definitely go away from movies very soon)..
I absolutely agree with you...There are lot more moving parts in the future and aware of it. Some of them support the industry growth and few or not.
You have mentioned some of them that will play against the industry or actor/star's growth. The reason I mentioned population because it is the seed of any consumer demand. As younger generation joining more and more work force and watching movies in theater, the new demand will be shared by most of the top stars. In such cases, the market share of new demand for rajini/kamal will be low which means there will be a growth with declining growth rate. My gut feeling that this what happened in 80's. It's not MGR/Sivaji lost their hold on respective fan base. it's the new generation movie goers probably school and college kids like me preferred and connected with young rajini/kamal. This is just a natural cycle. My comparison is not to bring them down. It's always worth to understand the past when one looks the future.
I do believe that a story/screen play can not replace VFX/gimmicks At any point in time. Also i do not see any immediate change will take place in TFI where commercial cinema will be sidelined by art house. It would be more like commercial or masala movies is travelling in different path mostly inspired by hollywood extravaganzas. We all know 80's SPM masala did not work in 90s. In same way, this would happen to shankar also provided he does not update himself with changing dynamics of people interest. So far it looks he updates himself. I attribute this nature more on line with S curve when you reach mature stage one has to reinvent him/herslef otherwise he/she will be out of business. IMO, Rajini did it in 2005 and will do it in the near future also.
Ranjith movie is not official yet. It is all rumors so far.:)
Read somewhere that santhosh narayanan already started composing :-)
Naan Sigappu Manidhan was not written by SAC. It was a remake of a Hindi Film. The Hindi film was Aaj Ki Aawaaz that had Raj Babbar in the lead. If I remember correctly this was released in 1984. It was a huge hit in Hindi which prompted Telugu producer A.Poornachandra Rao to buy the remake rights of the movie in all South Indian languages. If I my memory serves me right.he produced the films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam [Not sure of Kannada]. While Suman acted in Telugu it was Mammootty in Malayalam [Ee Sabtham Innathe Sabtham] and Rajini in Tamil.
But though all were remakes there were variations as for as Tamil and Malayalam were concerned. For that matter even Hindi. Bagiyaraj's role was not much of an important character in the original but since Bagiyaraj was roped in [He was at his peak and it was rumoured that Poornachandra Rao paid a bomb to make him agree to do the side role and since he and Rajini had already shared screen space in Anbulla Rajinikanth (1984) the casting went without any issues] his role was made bigger to accommodate his image.
But during release, theatres witnessed clashes at least in the initial days. I for one saw it in person. The movie was released on 12th April 1985 and I had gone for the opening show at Madhu theatre in Madurai. The crowd was mammoth and in spite of having the tickets we friends found it very difficult to even get in. The opening credits itself created a ruckus. Neither Rajini's name nor Bagiyaraj's name would be shown and instead both would be shown standing together with folded hands.
Bagiyaraj's introduction would happen during interval [with the transistor carried by him would be blaring a MGR song] and Rajini fans got wild and interval time saw people exchanging blows. It took a great effort to bring peace. Though Rajini fans easily outnumbered the other fans [in fact Bagiyaraj's fans were only a handful but tactical support from theatre employees who were ADMK supporters helped them]. It was a 100 day movie, I remember.
That Tamil New Year period saw multiple releases and I, who was working outside Tamilnadu had come down to Madurai for the Tamil New Year function and saw all the movies and in fact saw the opening shows of movies by Kamal, Rajini and NT.
April 11th Thursday - Khakki Sattai - Central - Morining Opening Show
April 12th Friday - Naan Sigappu Manidhan - Madhu - Morning Opening Show
April 13th Saturday - Neethiyin Nizhal - Meenakshi - Morning Opening Show
April 13th Saturday - Udhaya Geetham - Sundaram - Night show
April 14th Sunday - Kalyana Agathigal - Sakthi - Night Show
April 15th Monday - Pillai Nila - Minipriya - Matinee Show
April 16th Tuesday - Padikkadha Pannaiyaar - Nadana - Matinee.
Leave was over and went back to work place on that Tuesday night.
அது ஒரு காலம்!

'KOLA MASS' MUSIC FROM SANTHOSH NARAYANAN FOR RAJINIKANTH…
[COLOR=#5A5A5A !important]It’s more or less confirmed that Rajinikanth will be teaming up with director Ranjith for his next film. Apparently the technical pillars of the director’s last film Madras - Santhosh Narayanan (Music), Murali (Camera) & Praveen KL (Editing), have all been retained for Superstar’s next film.
Now the latest we hear is that Santhosh Narayanan, who has impressed us with his ‘Massy’ background score in films like Madras, Jigarthanda and Soodhu Kavvum has reportedly started working on his composition for the Rajini - Ranjith film.
Sounds very interesting indeed. We are waiting for some ‘Kola mass’ BGMs from Santhosh Narayanan which would elevate Rajinikanth’s already magnetic screen presence to a league of its own.

Santhosh Narayanan? Who is he? :)
Is Rajni not taking a gamble here ? any way he "knows" better !
Well cant exactly call it a Gamble... coz his last outings were with good hands and still failed to make the usual impact.
I wanted this to happen...!!
Not sure if this is going to happen (Rajini-Ranjith-Santosh Narayan), if it does...
It is very cheap tactics by "Talentless lucky star". How dare he selects a director/music director who have been successful.
It is crystal clear that he can't bank on himself (remember none of his movies has run for him, its for the director, music director, heroines, comedians & his wig....) & wants to ride on the success of Ranjith-Santosh Narayan's success wave....What a talentless lucky star he is!!
Sounds like a good plan by Shankar.
Director Shankar's next with Rajinikanth is said to be a Rupees 250 crore Mega venture that brings together the Superstar and Vikram together for the first time and speculations are rife that this could be the sequel to the blockbuster ‘Enthiran’ with some other reports suggesting a new script.
It is widely believed that A.R.Rahman is on board but Shankar has opted for acclaimed writer Jeyamohan instead of Subba who did ‘I’. Jeyamohan apart from his celebrated literary works has penned the scripts for such memorable films like ‘Naan Kadavul’, ‘Angadi Theru’, ‘Neerparavai’, ‘6 Mezhuguvarthigal’. The writer’s latest film project is Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan’s soon to be released ‘Papanasam’. Jeyamohan’s depth in story telling and Shankar’s dream big approach to film making is sure to result in an unforgettable treat for Rajini fans and movie lovers.
Why Vikram ? Rajni him self should do the -ve role !
http://www.indiaglitz.com/writer-jey...ws-132640.html
dont be so nervous about Vikram doing a negative role! He'll do justice to the role ... and you have to trust Shankar ;)
As an Actor he has "Always" done "more" than justice to his roles.. but I am not sure he has the charisma to Match Rajni like the great Raghuvaran did... but there is another problem , if this is the case and the Film becomes a BB and shatters Endhiran records, "Opposite" camp la" because of vikram this became a blockbuster" nu vadai suduvanga :lol2:
Is Shankar really going to do enthiran-2? :)

A new age, a new image
The million-dollar question in Kollywood is this: What next for superstar Rajinikanth? The grapevine has been abuzz that Rajinikanth had met new-generation filmmaker Pa. Ranjith, who has made Attakathi and Madras. Ever since the news broke, social media has been going berserk with rumours and updates including a ‘first look’ pic from the flick.
The rumour mill had it that Rajinikanth was very impressed with the script and that he had allotted bulk dates and it would be produced by veteran distributor and producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu. In fact, it was Thanu, who in the early 1980s, gave the famous ‘Superstar’ tag to Rajinikanth, in the posters of one of the films he distributed. The proposed Ranjith film is said to be a quickie, ready for Pongal 2016 release.
However, sources close to Rajinikanth have said that there is nothing official about this news, and the superstar is in discussion with various directors regarding his next film. Kalaipuli S. Thanu, when contacted, said: “I have no comments to make at the moment. I would love to make a film with the superstar, as and when it happens, God willing.”
Rajinikanth is in a piquant situation. His last release Lingaa failed at the box office and the subsequent controversies between producers and distributors over refunds left a bad taste. Lingaa was made by one of his most trusted directors, KS Ravikumar, with whom he had given one of his biggest hits, Padayappa. Rajinikanth realises that if he has to reinvent himself as a saleable star again, he has to work with a new-generation director, who understands the pulse of today’s youth audiences. The formula chiselled out of his larger-than-life image – which worked for him over the years, till Shankar’s Enthiran (2010) – is no longer hot at the box office.
The superstar needs to rework his image within the popular commercial format, with a new team that can think out of the box. Rajinikanth is still the biggest brand down south and has terrific recall value. The superstar has been meeting and brain-storming story ideas with directors like Shankar, Sundar. C, Raghava Lawrence and Pa Ranjith.
A source close to the development said: “If you take Rajinikanth’s or any big star’s career, they always prefer to work with directors who are not only on the same page but also on the same wavelength. It’s the comfort level that matters. But after some time familiarity sets in, and at that stage, you have to move on and work with young people who can give a new image that may work at the box office.”
The trade feels that for Rajinikanth to have a new lease of life at the box office, he not only needs a hit, but a producer who will market the film effectively. Trade experts believe that his last two films were sold at an unreasonable price, with the middleman walking away with the profits. One of Rajinikanth’s biggest strengths during the 1980s and 90s was his producers. He always worked with the best of banners and had a regular set of distributors who made his films financially viable. And he was one of the few stars who compensated the distributor and producer if his film failed, as Baba did.
Seventy-five per cent of the total theatrical revenue of a Rajinikanth film comes from Tamil Nadu, while it is 85 to 90 per cent for other big heroes. In TN, there is a cap on ticket rates and a film will have to carry a ‘U’ censor certificate if it has to be eligible for an entertainment tax exemption.
All this limits the amount that can be collected from theatrical revenue in the state. The international market for Tamil films is booming while the market in the rest of India is stagnant. Lingaa’s Hindi and Telugu versions were duds at the box office.
In today’s market scenario, where big-hero films are falling like nine pins at the box office, Rajinikanth knows the importance of the budget. The onus is on him to keep the budget of his new film under control. The market rumour is that he dropped Shankar and Raghava Lawrence as their budgets were more than Rs. 100 crore, something not feasible at the moment. As a comparison, the cost of the first copy of Salman Khan’s new film Bajrangi Bhaijaan is only Rs.75 crore.
Pa Ranjith is said to have got the nod as his script was good and will give the superstar an all-new image, and could be made on a very reasonable budget. The buzz is that he has roped in Kalaipuli S. Thanu, the president of the powerful Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC), as producer. Thanu understands the Tamil film market and there will not be any marketing headaches or release tension.
The latest we hear is that there will be an official announcement shortly.

An official confirmation is expected from Superstar Rajinikanth but buzz in Kollywood strongly say that Pa Ranjith will be directing his next film. Kalaipuli S Thanu will be producing it on first copy basis while the theatrical rights are likely to be handed over to a big corporate house.
The latest buzz is that the first schedule will kick start in Malaysia and Rajinikanth will be playing a gangster in the film but sources close to both Ranjith and Thanu are tight lipped about the project.
We also hear that music composer Santhosh Narayanan has started composing music for the film and an official confirmation is soon to be expected from the team.
