Actually the star cast is is excellent for an action film.... If the scrip is done well to bring their best, TV is is going to be a treat for South Indian fans... In fact Kamal so far built best base for Thoongaa vanam...

On the third day of shoot, I was shooting with a kid who didn’t get his act right. I went to sir and asked him if he would check the take and he replied, ‘It’s your job; that’s why I’m paying you.’

For Rajesh M Selva, director of superstar Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Cheekati Rajyam’, the thought of wielding the megaphone for a project never crossed his mind. “I began my career as Kamal sir’s third assistant director for ‘Marmayogi’ in 2008.
Though the film was shelved, I continued to work with his production house as they were regularly into films irrespective of the box-office results. After a journey of eight years, he felt I am ready to direct him,” says a smiling Rajesh, who studied Visual Communication. “It is like he is sending me to the examination hall now and I have to pass the test of what I learnt from him.”
Describing the film as an action thriller peppered with romance and family drama, Rajesh, who has his roots in Nellore, says, “I can vouch that Kamal sir hasn’t done this kind of film in a long time. It’s his safest commercial bet.” Chennai-bred Rajesh is touched by the complete support and liberty that he is receiving from the versatile actor, who is also producing the film.
“He gave me the freedom to choose my team – from cameraman Sanu Varghese to acting talents like Prakash Raj, Sampath and Kishore,” he exclaims, adding, “So far, I was his assistant director meeting his demands and now I’m looking at him from a director’s point of view. When he refers to me as the director, I feel like I’m in a dream world.”
After a pause he adds, “On the third day of shoot, I was shooting with a kid who didn’t get his act right. I went to sir and asked him if he would check the take and he replied, ‘It’s your job; that’s why I’m paying you.’ What more can I ask for?”
And admittedly, Kamal is everything for him. “Whenever I was down, I used to get a call from him asking me to work for him,” he recalls with a choke in his voice. “During the first three days of ‘Cheekati Rajyam’, we were really worried and had a feeling that something was going wrong.
After the fourth day, we showed him the footage. He was happy with what he saw and said, ‘You are going in the right track, go ahead.’ It was like a big pat on our back.” The director remembers how Kamal went out of his way to do prosthetic make-up for Trisha and Prakash Raj for a portion in the film. “It was actually a slip-up on my part.
I was supposed to call the prosthetic team but I forgot. When I explained the situation to sir, he said, ‘The shoot is tomorrow, right? We’ll figure out a way.’ But to the team’s surprise, though it was his reserve day, he dropped by the location and did the make-up for Trisha and Prakash Raj.”

"Thoongavanam" - a blockbuster in the making!
I hope it is not too gritty and violent....Here's what one reviewer had to day about Sleepless night:
As the film critic Anthony Lane once observed, there’s nothing so exhausting as being goaded into a state of constant excitement. He wasn’t talking about “Sleepless Night,” but the shoe fits. Hectic and harebrained, this galloping French thriller tosses a potpourri of plot points — crooked cops, sleazy gangsters, stolen drugs and an underage hostage — into a packed-to-the-gills nightclub, and stirs. Repeatedly.
Shrugging off the need for a fully developed story, the director, Frédéric Jardin (who also contributed to the script), weaves a sticky web of special interests bound by blood and fistfights and dizzying double crosses. His spider is Vincent (Tomer Sisley), a corrupt police officer who must return the cocaine he nabbed from a vicious dealer in order to release his son from the dealer’s sweaty clutches. The exchange is complicated by a nosy Internal Affairs team, a labyrinthine location and a bleeding knife wound that thankfully proves irrelevant to Vincent’s pummeling ability.
Charging from one beating to another, wrenching diminishing returns from drunken camera angles and cat-and-mouse games, Mr. Jardin makes Vincent’s predicament as hollow as a sustained scream. As he elbows his way for the umpteenth time through a sea of gyrating bodies, he pulls the story’s moral and locational mazes into overlap, and, briefly, we see a glimmer of a more thoughtful film.
Unfortunately, Mr. Jardin fails to notice; he’s too busy mocking Pierre Cardin and lecturing the villains on free will. Be sure to exercise yours.
Approx half of the movie shooting will be completed by 17th June in Hyderabad and remaining will be shot in Chennai for another 40 days... In that case movie shooting will be completed by July end and get into Post production.. eppO release pannuvaagalaam ?

No, not like that. I was hoping for a bit more mainstream mass movie with some refinements only possible by KH. So a bit disappointed that it will have raw violence like how KP did in those days. VR was different -- the first 30 minutes was different from the rest of the movie and movie as a whole had a tried to explore the terrorist psyche with sub plots and emotions and some depth.Quote:

Watched Sleepless Night last night. I found nothing great about the film. Is it worth a remake? If Captain hadn't spoilt Taken, Kamal could've at least remade it.

He can transform 'nothing great' to great, we all know that. Also I guess its better not to jump into conclusions and discuss about the worthiness of the remake, while its already in progress
They will have to make some changes to suit the audience here. How interestingly they do it will determine the final outcome.
Most of the movie takes place in a few rooms in the original version. Lots of dead bodies. Tons of violence. Not sure why Trisha's character is so de-glam? If you need a mother of a 12 year old who is a single parent, it has to be Manisha. So she is back again.
But, OTOH, they are remaking this French movie in Hollywood. So people see potential apparently
