Looking back, I'm sure a lot of thought went into shaping each of the characters in any great movie, not just the hero / heroine.
MM is one movie where all the characters easily come to life in front of you (done by capable artists as well) in a nice canvass superbly supported by music / lyrics!
While that may be so, the director portrays Vadivukkarasi's character very unsympathetically. It is to SP's credit that she saw beyond that veneer, not the director's credit.
Good choice, SP - keep going
PRABHAKAR, M.A. : A morbid character who is forlorn by the disparity that exists in this society. He is bound by inferiority complex and a very disturbing and pathetic childhood memory. But at the same time he also longs for a decent life which he thinks he really deserves. And when this “ decent “ life and his child hood girl interest, whom he loves the most in this world, is denied to him, his demeanour transforms into dangerous levels of eccentricity and turns him into a psychopathic cold blooded murderer.
One can easily get depressed after watching the traumatic experiences this character undergoes. But still, it leaves an indelible mark on the viewer just for the plain fact that he is not a guy from the Mars but could possibly be one among us. There’s just a thin line that separates us from being rational & becoming insane. And unfortunately, Prabhakar happens to be on the wrong side. Being such a natural & “ it may happen to anybody “ kind of a character, Prabhakar becomes yet another of my favourite characters on screen.
1. Maadippadi Maadhu
2. Server Sundaram
3. Major Chandrakanth

what disparity? professors in govt colleges get 60k salary nowadays.......recession and subsequent suffering* of IT people really watered down this movies' arguements....Quote:

Prabu Deva's character in Kadhala Kadhala..
My most favorite characters on screen.
Karthik in Mouna Raagam.
Rukmini Vijayakumar in Aanandha Thandavam (im in love with her).
Ramya Krishnan in Padaiyappa.
Radhika in Jeans.
Delhi Ganesh in Avvai Shanmugi.
Surya in Pithamagan.
Vadivelu in Vetri Koddi Katte.
Vadivelu in Paatali (in female get up).
Goundamani in Baba.
Shalini's father in Alaipayuthey.
:notworthy: Finally, a recognition. Though he seemed like a jalra to Baba (Naangga saamiya kindal pannuvom, mudinja maamiyayum kindal pannuvom) he is a commentator of especially of the ridiculous thing the friend indulges in (Mootta tookurathukkellam cheers-adaa?).Quote:

Well, more of a Jalra who can cross the board  That's why I said he's also commentator of the ridiculous. Remember Baba agrees to whatever he says, shakes hand to the point where he has to say, "Poothumbaa!". Or, maybe Baba was his jalra in the early atheist scenes....don't touch that!!! :P
My favourite characters ranked
1. Alex PAndian
2. PAlakkAttu mAdhavan
3. nAdhas
4. 23 pulikEsi
5. nAgarAja chOzhan
Kalpana (Asin) character in Ghajini.......one of the most heart wrenching characters brought out so well by A.R.M.......to be fair, after watching Hindi version only, i realised the astronomical tragedy around this character :) ......esp the "kaise mujhe" song exemplifies this.....
Asin-a paathhe paridhaabam vandhudhe, idhe genelia-vo, tamanna-vo pannirundha, rendu naalu geofferys-laye kedandhu iruppen :D
 adhula parunga....moodhevi, moodhevi... :DQuote:

Mathapadi, there's nothing against teckies here. Unnoda uzhaippukku unnoda verva, ennoda uzhaippukku ennoda verva..... :D
Another unforgettable character...

MANIVANNAN ~ Amaidhipadai
what a casually cool hilarious performance
Personally I want to ask MV: anna.. indha dialogue allam eppadingna screen'la kondu varreenga.. ethanai room pOttu yosichalum indha madhiri kidaikkadhu

For this specific reason I like MV & K Baghyaraj.. pora pOkkula dialogues konduvaruvanga
Rangan, i had big problems with the film- the way director shows disparity - he is earning 2k and his friend earns 2L per month..........did that director ever step into a IT firm and did some basic fact finding.........seri vidunga, IT pasangala criticise panradhu dhaan fesan :)
MADDY, that scenes was hilarious.
Scene setting-ku "Dude get me a burger"-nu oru kural kEkkum :lol2:
Most memorable line being one of the cubicle fellows passing a plastic folder saying: indha file-ai avunga kitta kuduthurunga
But the film was very narrowly understood. It had a wider context. 'Rage against alienization and fiery egotism' is something quite difficult to bring out on screen. And they had done a terrific job of that in that movie.
ennamo ponga, padam enakku suthhama pudikkala.......except for u1's score and BGM - brilliant yaa 8-)Quote:

nowadays after recession, we get to see ADs in Matrimonials saying "software people, please excuse" (it was so reminiscent of "brokers, please excuse" ads in mumbai and bangalore real estate ads :rotfl3:) ........ippa naa padam edukkatuma - katradhu Java-nnu - ada pongappa
Oorvasi - MagaLir mattum. Absolutely lovable.
Maddy, as PR said, andha character alienize avaradhukku, they need a reason, and this time, computer guys maatnanga, that's it ! :D
Vayila irundhu poga varra alavukku vayitherichal pudicha Dharumi-ellam naama paakaliya - adhu comedy, idhu serious, avlodhan. :D
And to be honest, Jeeva's stunning performance was another reason for me to consider it as a fav. char. on screen.
The tv intree bit of public where on guy says he has had to shift out of the city:
பூந்தமல்லி வரைக்கும் போயிட்டேன் சார்....அங்கயும் வரானுங்க சார்
Had me and my friend (who was searching for a house then), in splits. Even now he is hunting for affordable, good accomodation and is faced with outrageously distant choices. We keep referring to this line in the discussions.
Equa's line about the rage being essentially 'middle class' in its roots is true. But why is that a failing ?
and when people call such "illogical jealousy" on IT guys as "lovable/enjoyable" , then i feel director has been successful in alienating IT guys infact :) .....Quote:

MADDY, what is "logical jealousy" ? What is நியாயமான ஆத்திரம் ?Quote:

That the gallery chose to be pleased and missed the point can't be held against the film. Thank God, it didn't bother doing the research on the economic conditions etc.Quote:

(Ram even crosscuts the scene in the IT company his friend is working at, with a lunch-time scene in a yesteryear government office.) And the questions/concerns regarding the various courses available for students to take (again very middle-class), etc. is to completely miss the point. Prabhakar happens to choose the Tamil course for some reasons (and the film builds its questions on top of this), but is that actually how people get thrown into completely different worlds? Throughout the film, Prabhakar remains this exception who talks for “those people.”Quote:
