That is the beauty of Thala. Thala trusts new directors a lot than established directors or directors who are low mainly purely because they have the fire in them and have something in them to excel.
Or may be who knows Thala would have heard about this story from Siva before doing Veeram. He would have wanted to experiment with Veeram before doing this Urbane flick if reports are true as the budget is on the higher side. There could be lots of happenings in the background for Thala to go with Siva when we hear that ARM is waiting for Thala. :)

Thala never fails to surprise me.If he had selected GVM for his 50th film(then GVM wanted to work with him) and after 55th if he would have selected ARM think about the market supremacy he will have
Instead he went with VP for 50th which resulted in one of the most entertaining and I hope even this movie will turn like that
IMO, actually thala is not at all worried about his market if we look at the way he has gone with the selection of the movies, directors etc. He doesn't do movies with established directors just to increase his market value but will do only if he like the story/script too much and the most important of all the compatibility which we have been hearing in various interviews.
Let us take the example of Mankatha...director VP after some successful movies though...he didn't take off...but a movie with thala....pedaled him to different plane altogether...same with Siva....even after Veeram blockbuster...thala wanting to do a movie with Siva which will take Siva to greater heights...
In the meantime when Saran was lying low...thala did Asal with him but it didn't do well....Aalwar new director...that too didn't do well...lost opportunity by the new director...Aegan with Raju Sundaram didn't do that great...
now GVM who was low and had many financial problems...when he is doing a movie with thala when thala called him up....GVM is elated and wants to prove a point...next movie with Siva will be more experimental for Siva if it is an urbane flick and guess Siva can't imagine anybody else but only ajith doing this movie...
