We need to bowl better: Muttiah Muralidaran
There are several reasons why we might have missed out on a semifinal berth, but if the truth be told there was only one main reason why we have qualified: the buccaneering brilliance of MS Dhoni. Dhoni had had a patchy tournament by his own high standards leading up to his remarkable undefeated 29-ball 54 against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday evening, but his timely return to form was typical of a natural match-winner who relishes the big occasion.
When the final two overs started with us needing 29 runs it was a tall order. Kings XI held the advantage. But Dhoni stamped his authority on the game, dominating the strike and scoring (he scored an incredible 28 out of the 29 runs scored in those final 10 deliveries).
I was so excited by it all that I think I must have sprinted faster than I have for the past 10 years as he smashed the final six and we all charged onto the field to congratulate him. It was a great night and I will cherish the memories of being part of it for years to come.
While Dhoni was undoubtedly the hero of the night, special mention should also be made for Suresh Raina. His 46 from 27 balls kept us alive after the loss of the openers.
His contributions all season have been brilliant and his consistency over all three seasons show just how good a player he is. Badrinath and Ashwin were also star performers and both deserve plenty of praise.
Now that our first objective of qualifying has been achieved, we need to re-focus on our next game against Deccan. It is going to be a really tough semifinal and we are going to have to be at our very best to beat last year's winners, a side overflowing with talent.
The beauty about a T20 game is that everything depends on your performance on the day. No side is unbeatable and we definitely have a good chance of winning. We need to produce a much better bowling performance than the other night and hopefully our top order will click. Having Dhoni back in form is a huge confidence booster, giving us a much more solid-looking batting unit.

MSD during the toss - we have a lot of players who havent had much of international exposure and havent had the pressure of playing semis/finals etc. If we senior players show different preparations or pressure for such big games it would probably make them also try differently and push a panic button, so i try to keep it simple and take it as any other game
Compare with most captains in this year IPL itself - you can differentiate the Champion :smokesmirk:
kalakkal captaincy.
field settings, shuffling of bowlers
& the way he responds to any situation, way of his expressing things,
you rock man.
