M.G. Sreekumar to be honoured
Thiruvananthapuram: Well-known Malayalam playback singer M G Sreekumar would be honoured at a function here on December 24 in recognition of his completion of 25 years in the film world.
K J Yesudas, P Jayachandran, K S Chithra, Usha Uthup and eminent personalities from cinema would participate in the 'Mega-Show' organised as part of the felicitation celebration, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and Programme Committee Chairman Cherian Philip told reporters here.
Sreekumar, also present at the press conference, said it was a rare honour and he was very happy. Answering questions, he said he never experienced any kind of obstacle from his seniors Yesudas and Jayachandran during his 25-year-long career.
"If you look on things like that, it would be difficult for one to concentrate on work," he said. Sreekumar, a recipient of two national and three state awards for best songs, became a professional singer after quiting his job with State Bank of Travancore in 1986.
New generation singers were not getting attention due to limitation and poor quality of songs, he said to a question. "Singing for superstar Mohanlal in a good number of films is a turning point and one of the main factors that contributed to the success in my career," Sreekumar, who was born in a family of classical singers here, said.
