Emotional moments at GIMA
The first Chevrolet Global Music Indian Awards ( GIMA) turned out to be an event, high on emotional quotient.
So while there were quite a few music legends who were felicitated in the first edition of the awards, there was the entire Subramanium family that was awarded the Best fusion award for their work on the "Live At Neues Gewandhaus Leipzig Germany" album. Kavita Krishnamurthy looked visibly ecstatic and admitted that it is indeed a moment of joy and pride for the entire family as it was the first time that they had won an award as a family and not as individuals.
Oscar winning Composer A.R. Rahman had his poignant moment when he spoke about his father who used to look at Lata Mangeshkar's picture every morning and find inspiration to compose music. When given the opportunity of presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award along with legendary Asha Bhonsle, he grew reminiscent and wished his father was alive to witness this historic feat.
Lata Mangeshkar has won umpteen numbers of awards at national and international platforms, but it was for the first time at Global Indian Music Awards that she was awarded for a non-film album. A devotional album, Hanuman Chalisa, fetched her, the award for the Best devotional music- a first in her musical career spanning more than 60 years.
