All,
The duration of the interview is about 81 minutes, which includes few full length songs. It is a really great interview. Don't miss it. Make sure you allocate time enough to listen to the whole interview.

Usha Sankar,
That is true. It is a candid interview. I only posted the link to the interview. Please thank merina.com for bringing it to us. You could send them an email.
Here is a link to a website that contains a lovely archive of Oriya songs by all the great singers from all over the country, and a systematic categorization of the various genres, and listings by singer, music directors etc.
And of course, do not forget to listen to songs by VJ! :-)
While writing, I am enjoying VJ's songs for Prafulla Kar, in the film sati Anusuya.
Happy listenings!
Geez...and I forgot the link! :-)

That site is a find. I listened to a few tracks today. Nache from Sati Anusuya and the qu'wwali from Sindura Bindu are good. Tiki Tiki is also a nice one. I think Prafulla Kar composed VJs (version of) Gita Govindam? I have to look it up.
Thanks for sharing.

When you presented Arai Koduththaal Theriyum at POTW, I was reminded of another brilliant composition by MSV, featuring VJ/SPB:
Amman Alangaaram, Andhippagal Naeram...(?? can't remember the right words) - but it lingers as a great tune.
Nache re....is a lovely Yaman (for the most part, though the interludes move into another raga). The duet "kuhu kuhu..." from the same film is also enchanting. Yes, Prafulla Kar it was who had composed the music for VJ's Geeta Govindam.

It will take a whole summer to sample every track at that site. I've bookmarked it, and plan on visiting it again in the next few months.
Thanks for the GG/PK confirmation.

Thanks to AV, I am revisiting some VJ songs in my files after many, many months...and such a rediscovery it is!
It is beyond certainty that MSV summoned VJ to deliver his best solos in the late 70s/early 80s.
After more than two decades, these songs still wrap me in awe:
Malligai Malareduththu, Maaranthanaik Kodukka...
Azhagukku Mugavari Kaettaen, Ammamma...
Isaiththuraiyil Enakku Kaadhal Vaegam...
Konji Konji Muththamidum...
Mangala Poomazhai, Pongidum Thirumeni...
Naan Ethirpaarththadhu, Anbae...
I'll stop there for now!
:)
AV,
Thanks for the link. Great songs!
Naaz,
Wonderful solos! And there are many more like these by MSV and VJ. Also S-G and VJ gave many great solos.
