Actually I have only seen some parts of White Balloon - which I liked very much. So I have no reason to dislike Panahi or anything.
podhuvA, indha political filmmakers, artist-activist types rub my cynical side off a lot. I heard about non-film film, and got annoyed immediately. Hence the blow when I got a whisker of a chance.

Non-actors-ai vachchu, documentary-style-la feature film edukkuRadhaip paththi unga karuththu?
You get annoyed easily. You haven't even seen it!
Isn't documentary one of the easily imbibed story-telling mediums than feature films? Of course, there's something meta- when a film straddles between both, especially when the filmmaker's a master of both 'modes'. That a documentary is in itself a carefully edited altered 'version' (or 'presentation') of 'truth' is a given and we've gone there before.
A filmmaker is supposed to create a near-reality. Capturing it documentary style is a 'lesser' art IMO. And when that is being applauded on par, because of the political circumstances, that prejudices me against it.
Always using non-actors, writing directly on celluloid - alll viewed with similar suspicion.
Kurosawa - happy accidents are welcome, else everything is exactly what I want it to be - is more like it.
But I beg to differ. So grotesquely that I'd rather be smashed on my face, repeatedly, with a fire extinguisher.
Moving on, I saw Columbo 7th season 1st episode "Try and catch me". The sinister neighbor of Rosemary's baby, the eccentric Maude who eloped with Harold with a good turn again. And easily one of the better episodes in midway slope of the series..
Which one of you kind gentlemen will explain Le Samouraļ to me?
Men in Black - 3 at INOX(Mantri Square ??). Went to watch Avengers but settled for MIB-3 and I was pleasantly surprised. Josh Brolin is a great addition to the supporting cast and boy he did great. Smith as usual is very funny and very good. Attaboy Philly homey. Eminently watchable for good lead performances, IMO.
^ Will be watching the movie this weekend....Btw how is the use of 3D.....Hate movies which have no actual use for the 3D, but release it in the format....
Watched it in 2D. I disavow 3D.
sumArA? Well, I guess if you are not familiar with the works of Chandler/Hammet, it's a bit difficult to like this movie. It is a ahaa ohoo movie, one of the best in private eye genre (though its more than that, political). Best actor to have never played Philip Marlowe, and easily one of the best villains ever.
Revisited Pulp Fiction again. The sequence involving Vincent and Jules just after the opening credits till they get the briefcase from Bretts is enough for me to revisit the movie time and again. . A sequence effectively built up with suspense, fear, tension and intensity and Samuel L Jackson just owns it. Just great writing from Tarantino. Jules has great subtexts throughout the scene. Many a times, he does surprising and unexpected things while accomplishing what we suspected he would in the beginning but again staying true to character.....
RocknRolla
Good fun. Great casting!!

feddy, congrats ya! welcome to namma bengaluru
Le Samourai, unkind gentleness in unscrupulous scruples
hats and coats, are only mannered to cloak,
Like the lone caged bird, feathers ruffled to wither shreds
a Ronnin confined on his bed, emerge vapors of smoke,
or fumes of one's own soul, like the room, bleak and grey,
Is it any more alive than dead, with feelings so cold
Dithered the solitude, Orpheus awakened by love,
It is not his ring of keys, that unchained his heart
but by black Princess in white, like keys on a piano,
valorous her name, and glorious, she will remain,
no less meaning or contour, in Hara-kiri of a martyr
with no fear, dead, with empty bullets on his gun
Ok, so I didn't miss anything in my dislike.
Wanted to confirm.
Thank You.
Good Lad.

Avengers - Good stuff. Have to applaud the director for giving decent enough footage to all the actors involved. While Hulk and Iron Man walk away with the honors every other actor does pretty well. Hulk smashing Loki was a :rotfl: Moment. Great blockbuster already.
Feddy, plis to resend PM

Keane
Clean, Shaven
Grueling, potent, challenging companion-pieces from lesser-known filmmaker Lodge Kerrigan. Homeland fans don't have to fear about Damian Lewis, be wary of panicky traumatic depressed 'ticks', but you'll find only William Keane here.
Snow White and the Huntsman - This was my 8th film in the last 10 days watched in theatre. May be I should take it slow. Kristen Stewart looks wise fits perfectly for the role. Padam rombo sumaar.
Seen 3 completely varied movies over the last couple of days.
Coraline - watch if you're a fan of Tim Burton, Johnny English Reborn - better than the first one and The Dictator - post Bruno, Sacha delivers another satirical approach which, on the outside is as hard as nails but deep below inside enlightens us on humanity. I thoroughly enjoyed all three.
Everywhere and Nowhere (2011) is a Brit-Asian drama about a guy going through an Identity struggle i.e. trying to find balance between his ethnic tradition and multi-culture London. An aspiring DJ, whose family want him to give up his passion and join the family the business instead. *Spoiler* The climax won’t have many takers, but sometimes an abrupt ending says more thank you think.
