Pretty good (though not comprehensive list) of India's famed middle order batsmen. Namma neighbours Fakistan eppadi decade after decade, kOvAlty bowlers froduce pannikitte irrukaingalo, adhe maathiri naamalum avaingala sammalikka kOvAlty batsmen froduce pannurOmO? :lol:

For me it is, Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Vishy, Jimmy, Azhar, Vengsarkar (in that order)!
Of course, Nayudu/Hazare/Umrigar are all legends but I haven't seen their batting besides hearsay.
Pataudi & Ganguly make very good captains (especially the former) but I wouldn't include them in this league.
Watched Pakistan's second innings for a while yesterday, Swann for me is the best off-spinner around :thumbsup: He had all the batsman in trouble, if only Prior was slightly better keeper, I'm sure Swann would have wrapped up things earlier.
Was also amazed to see Umar Akmal's approach against Swann, first ball he faced he was down the track and Prior missed a chance :irked:
cricinfo seems to indicate a 3 member middle order.Quote:

I would say Dravid also place fixed so basically, we just have one slot to fight over. I think cricinfo is going for Kapil Dev at #6 which will be a blunder I think. So, lets go for 4 middle order slots with Sachin and Dravid fixed at #4 and #3.
Lots of options but obviously, Viswanath, Laxman, Ganguly, Vengsarkar stand out. Apart from other things, Sehwag apart, they occupy the next 4 slots to Sachin, Dravid and Sunny in the all time aggregate list for India.
Amarnath had too brief and too unsustained spell of successes despite the bravery against pace;
Pataudi is more of "if only he wasnt handicapped, he might have been Bradman". Thanks. Maybe, but that is speculation. Hazare and earlier ones, I dont know much about;
Azhar - match fixing apart, his away record, which I got to know recently , is really poor except for a couple of innings here and there in Australia and South Africa. Check it out. You'll probably realise that his reputation far precedes his record - just as I did, for even I had an illusion that he had a great record away until I saw it!
Lax - has proved himself in a wide variety of conditions and situations and for that reason, I will put him above his idol Azhar.
Gangs - purely as a batsman, he'll probably not make it. His left-handedness adds variety, though
Vengsarkar - for a batsman with such reputation, his away record reads patchy and he seems stronger on paper than on actual record
Vishy - my choice, for my money. Havent seen him much but romantic tales of 70's and 80's writers on the beauty of his batting is what I grew up on so tough to shed that legacy in my mind.
Once you choose Vishy, I am in a dilemma whether to go for Lax or Amarnath/Ganguly - I am discounting Vengsarkar for Lax has done far more in a wider range of conditions. Both Amarnath and Ganguly add medium pace(rather, "slow fast", as in "Amarnath is a slow fast bowler") options. Lax is again a stylist in Vishy mould. Despite all that, I am inclined to go with Lax. Sehwag, Sachin should give us the extra bowling options. Besides, an all time best XI should be able to get 4 good bowlers, even if the team concerned is India!
