Hi Premananth
yes .. swarna is wife of MD V.Kumar.
Thanks madhu.....!
balaji -
Thanks for the correction. I was about to add an interrogation in paranthesis after PS(?), but thought better of it! These days 3 out of 4 is the best I can do - and I settle for it, happily! :)
One of my favourites by PS for RN in Telugu is Aakulo Aakunai. But that will never be heard here!
Ramki -
Your best works for me! :)
About KVM, there is this VJ/SPB duet from "dubbing" padam, and perhaps one of the few "dubbing" padam songs that I hum every so often: Inniraasulu Iniki (Raasiyo Nalla Raasi) - Raashi in Telugu and Raasi in Tamizh - beautifully composed by KVM and sung with great sincerity by the leads. Ramki? :)
Premananth..i will soon.
Naaz, Raasi is the name of the film?Or it is the song title?
Pick #310

Song: thumthanathanathum
Film: Maya Bazaar 1995
Singer : Jolly Abraham
lyrics: vaali ?
Music: iLaiyaraja
Strange are the ways of our MDs. They neglect some singers when they are in their prime. What makes them remember these singers after decades will be a unsolved mystery. JA was one such singer.
He vanished from TFM for nearly 10-15 years and then IR gave him not one but 2 songs. The first one is todays pick and the second is 'oru chinna mani kuyilu' from kattapanchayathu.
Both were good melodies but both did not become big hits. JA vanished again . Will he resurface again? Chances are slim but who knows.
Maya bazaar 1995 was a stupid film. The film , inspired from Patrick Swayze's 'Ghost' with the roles reversed, had oorvasi and Ramki. I remember only one more song
'muthu muthu poongodi'(Chitra, Mano)
Ramki
Nalla padal. Chithra's short version was good too.
Oru Oorile Oru rajaKumaran (by old SJ) was also there I think..
Naaz
Neenga "isaikku oru Koil" padalai patri pesavillaiye? Adhu prablamana pattu ache. Hopefully there is an other song
Bala
Ramki,
I thought 'enakOr needhi' was last film by VK. I'm not sure, I was told that MD was Kumar at that time. The only song that I remember is 'kaNNeeraalE vithiyin kaikaL ezhuthum kOlam' by KJY. Ofcourse I might be wrong too :)
Unggal Muyarchikku Nandri Ramki Sir....!
Oru Chinna Manikkuyilu from Kattapanchayathu is by JA?! Naan Arunmolzhi Endrallava Nenachen? Anyhow thanks for the information.
Avar kural konjam maarithaan pochu!
I too was under the impression that oru chinna manikuyilu is by Arunmozhi & Bava!
Considering the quality of so many other mid-90s Ilayaraja tunes, I didn't think that "Thumthanathanathum" would be anything worth listening to. How wrong I was! What a melodious piece of Mohanam (albeit not pure Mohanam).
Ramki -
Guess it must be Isaikku Oru Kovil. I think in Telugu it was Sruthilayalu?
balaji -
Before you correct my own lyrics :) let me say that I got the first line wrong (tamizh version) Endrumae Nalla Raasi. Was this a prabalamaana paadal? When I think popular (or populist?) I think of songs like Ponnmeni Urugudhae, Nila Kaayudhu, Oram Po Oram Popular sort of songs...I somehow think IRs (dubbing) Keeravaani Iravilae, Kanavilae Paadavaa Nee had more air-time than the duet from IOK.
Request...
If you find this lovely (rare? lost?) duet by SJ/PJC (?) for Chandrabose, please feature it some day: Odaiyil Naan Nalla Odai, Olinjirukkum Poonjchola from Rajaaththii Rojaakkili. Among the best by CB...
I too thought 'Oru Chinna Mani kuyilu' from 'Kattapanjayathu' was by Arunmozhi. Jolly Abraham's voice sounds pretty soft to that one
Hearing this name, I am reminded of a singer who sang 'Surangani'. Who was he ?
Never knew such a song existed in Maya Bazaar 1995  thanks for the song Ramki.
I have seen this movie as well! :) It had Urvasi & Ramki in double roles.
Urvasi acted as daughter of Visu who is a rich man.Urvasi though grown up would have the mental status of a child .( as usual)Visu tries hard to get her married and finally gets her married to Ramki who is his manager and good hearted.Visu dies soon after. After the marriage its known that Ramki is actually a bad man & he kills Urvasi.NowUrvasi the ghost meets another Urvasi who is a dubakur billi suniyam lady. With this Urvasi's help pazhi vangum padalam is achieved. In the climax it is known that the first Ramki( good one) is actually locked up in a paathala room by the second one and it is this 2nd one who had actually killed Urvasi. For the 2nd Ramki Swarna was the jodi. I remember there was a song for this jodi in a swimming pool.
I had today's pick song in my collection along with the chinna manikuyilu song. The negative aspect in the latter song was Bhavatharini's voice.
Naaz
Good one. Naan Prabalamnu solradhu, radiovil konjam frequenta vandha padalgalai. This song was played frequently when the K.Vishwanath/KVM dubbbing movie was released. Athai than sonnen. Thinking again, may be prabalam may not be the apt word for this song. Ramki, adhu arumaiyana padal. Mudinthal KVM-in 80/90 padalgalai mudinthal podungal. "kadahal kiligal" oru arumaiyana Album.
Ungalai correct panna medam endru thaan ninaithen anal mudiyavillai. 'Odaiyil ..' is by KJY/SJ. Sorry for correcting.
Bala
oru chinna manikuyilu is by JA
Arunmozhi had Venduna vendum varam from the same movie (with minmini)
ramki: good song by JA. You are right. Can't get why he was not used by MDs.
Bala i have not listened to chitras version.
FM neenga sonna correctaa thaan irukkum :)
Naaz 'sri gananaadha' song from isaikkoru kovil was already featured in POW.
Narayanan, i too think 'surangani' is by JA.
jMahesh, swimming pool songthaan 'muthu muthu poongodi' :)
Thanks jn

Song: malargaLin raaja
Film: vaLLi deivanai
Singers : Mallika, Dhanasekar
lyrics: ?
Music: Thyagarajan
This week i chose to focus on singers who never made big in TFM.
Todays pick has a catchy tune, fresh voices, decent interludes and was aired frequently. As far as i know, and to my total puzzlement, this is the only song by these two singers. Mallikas voice sounds close to BSSasirekha's but slightly better.
Dhanasekar has a soft voice and with proper training and encouragement could have made it big.
I wonder what these one time wonders are doing now?Alive? singing chorus?
Who are the actors in 'vaLLi deivanai'? Are there other good songs in VaLLidev?
Ramki: Thanks for today's pick. I'm hearing this one after a very long time. Dhanasekar's voice in some places resembles A.M. Raja. Excellent Pick! My son liked this song and wanted me to play it over and over! :)
Nalla Song Ramki
This song Radio vil adikadi varum oru galathil

Isnt Suraangani sung by Ceylone Manohar - the villain actor with parattai thalai?
Ramki,
There is at least one other song by Dhanasekar that I know of. It is a duet with VJ. It is a cute song and will remind you of malargaLin rAjA. The song is "Asai thuNaiyE azagu chilaiyE" from the film Pallavi Illaatha Paadal.
Speaking of singers who did not make it big, the song "Oorvasi Menagai" by BSS that was featured few months ago is from the film Vallavan Varugiraan.
Thanks Ramki for the song.
However, I don’t think “malargaLin rAjA" is a rare song. It easily can get in CDs and frequently plays in Minnal.fm.Kuala Lumpur.
The full name of MD is N.S.Thiagarajan. Ravichandran and Pramila are leads of "vaLLi Theivaanai, which released in 1973.
I have read that both of the singers are blind. Unmaiya Theriyavillai.
[/tscii][tscii]
Sorry for miss this in above message.
"PoothirunthEn KaathirunthEn KulamagaL Pole" is another nice Solo by P.Susila.
Pramila acted in duel role in VT. They are the vaLLi and theivAnai.

One request: please imagine a ? after all the details (Film/MD/Singers/Lyricists) whenever I mention them in my posts. I really appreciate the corrections, and urge you not to stop!
Ramki -
I remember Sri Gananaatham quite well. Yes, it was one of your early POTW picks. Greatness all over.
Malargalin Rajaa is a real find, with or without Minnal (I have not tuned in to this station for a few years now!) And, for a change, I heard the tune as soon as I read the two words on the homepage link! :) Thanks!
Friends,
I have just checked the album and there are two more songs.
all over in vaLLi theivAnai:
1) malargaLin rAjA alzhagiya rojA by Danasekar & Malliga
2) Poothirunthu Kaathirunthen KulamagaL Pole by P.Susila
3) athu athu athu by TMS & PS
4) manggala peNNe anggayarkaNNi by L.R.Eswary
All are nice melodies!
Hi Ramki..
Mallika and Dhanasekar sang one more song in "samarpaNam"
the song goes like "thandhaikku oru piRavi thAyarukkO iru piRavi
piRandhEn mudhal piRavi.. kaNNa unnai petReduthEn maRu piRavi"
I think the MD is again.. same Mr.Thyagarajan :P
RC, unga sonkku nalla taste :)
NeelD, Madhu thanks for mentioning other songs by these singers.
Premananth, I'm glad to see this song is commonly available in CD's. Thanks for listing all other songs from vallidevyanai. Do you have that Cd with you?

Songs: piLLai manam/thedum en kaadhal
Film: oru malarin payanam
Singers : Vani Jairam - Rajseetharaman, T.L.Thyagarajan
lyrics: Mu. Mehta
Music: Chandrabose
OMP is one of the rare album with songs by relatively unknown singers. RS and TLT did not get to sing many songs in TFM.
Rajseetharaman rose to fame with 'mella mella' from vazhkai.
The other good song by RS is 'mansukkuL utkarndhu' from .
I have no details on other songs by TLThyagarajan.
After Sirai, few of Anuradha Ramanans story made into movies. OMP is one of them. The film had Lakshmi, Sulakshana, Oorvasi, MuraLi etc and i think it was directed by Mukta Srinivasan.
The film had one more good solo by VJ . Im sure Neel or Naaz will know what the song is.
BTW thanks to NeelD for keep sending these rare songs.
Ramki Sir,
I have the CD but I don't know how to send it to POW. All are nice gems.
Madhu, the samarpanam song's lyrics are very nice and meaningfull. Is there any chance to listen it?
Thanks for the info Madhu.
First time I listen OMP songs.
Madhu,
You are right. N.S. Thiyagarajan is the MD for Samarppanam.
VaLLi Theivaanai and Samarpanam were under same banner, producer, director.
VT in 1973 and SamarpaNam was in 1974.
Friends nobody answer my question that Is that true Danasekar & Mallika are blinds.
Thanks for the songs Ramki.
OMP was directed by Muktha srinivasan's son, i think his name was Sundar.
By any chance, is TL Thiagarajan brother of TL Maharajan.?
Manasukkul utkarndhu was from Kalyana Agadhigal, isnt it?
Ramki -
Nice picks! Now that I've been put on the spot, I guess I must answer the question: VJ solo from OMP is Thanthana Thanthana Thaalaththilae Ival Saththangal Podugiraal. I've always found VJs pronunciation of "Manam" (in any song) to be lovely. Among the male leads, TLT wins this round. Thaedum En Kaadhal Penn Paavai is one of CBs better kaadhora geethaanjalis :) Glad to hear these songs after decade plus...Great going!
Aduththadhu, Thalaiyai Kuniyum Thaamaraiyo? :P

TL.Thiyagarajan? :) He sang 'amutha mazhai pozhiyum muzhu nilavilE' in 'pombaLa manasu'. This was the popular song in Late 80's. :)
NEya ennai pArthavan by PS is another b'ful solo from OMP
Madhu,
You are right! TL Maharajan, TLThyagarajan, Deepan Chakravarthy are brothers and they are Trichy Loganathan's sons. My dad used to be in touch with Thyagarajan few years ago.
I believe he sang punnagai puriyaadha kaadhalai solla vaarthai illai with Lalitha Sagari - MD ChandraBose
RC, I thought KJY sang punnagai puriyaathaa :)
FM: I think you are right! It should be someother song then!
Hi all, Ramki is busy and asked me to takeover for a while.. So pls welcome your interim DJ and continue to give your support. :) If you have rare songs to feature, you can send them to k.rajaraman AT yahoo.com .

What can I say.. this is one of the perfect compositions in which singing, tune, interludes and lyrics all excel. I can listen to it over and over again and never get bored. Real treat!
