oh, apdiya. Sari. Harmless-ngareenga. Apdiye Rishi Kappoor pathi sila vaarthaigaL - pudikkumnu mattum sollidadheenga
I saw Padmini mention that she acted with Sivaji in 53 films! Is this true? It's a lot for any couple on screen, right? :o
Somehow the perfect pair issue has not evinced interest in me. Of course I always refrain from listing the top ten or the best pair and the film you like most etc. (May be not good in selecting).
Padmini with NT and that too in earlier films would be ravishing. Especially Anbu, Raja Rani, Uthhama Puthiran (romance at its best), Deiva Piravi [Anbaale thediya en arivu selvam song) etc would be too good. Kalyanam Panniyum Brahmachari is another. Thooku thooki and Amara Deepam also would be excellent. Many still go ga! ga! over Pudhaiyal [Vinnodum Mukilodum].
In her second innings, Padmini though not matching her earlier efforts did manage to hold good in Iru Malargal and Pesum Deivam. The scene after Mannavan Vandhanadi in Thiruvartselvar is one where you could actually feel the chemistry, though the same cannot be said of Vipra Narayana's love in Thirumal Perumai.
But came Mohanambal, Padmini etched her permanent place as the perfect pair (for the majority of the public).
Guru Dhakshinai went unnoticed. After that came Vietnam Veedu but I remember some people murmuring that G.Sakunthala who did the role in the stage was much better. Not sure. But Padmini was ok. But the biggest let down was Iru Dhuruvam. Padmini past her prime by now couldn't match with NT, who by that time had become so lean, smart and looking so young. Thenum Paalum in the making for long was also not noticed.
Then there was a long gap till Thaikku Oru Thalaattu happened in 1986 (of course there was a brief special appearence in Deepam). But when the most expected song in that movie ("Paazhaya Paadal Pola Pudhiya Paadal Illai" in the same tune as Unnai Ondru ketpen) was not there, it acted as a dampner. Lakshmi Vandhachu added up numerically to the list.
I have missed out many films acted by this pair but the above serves as a good range. Having discussed about Padmini, let me talk about others tomorrow. On the side lines, one interesting conversation that I heard was Padmini should have been there in Ambikapathy instead of Banumathy, which would have made the film a huge success.
Regards
PS: Bay, your favourite Kanchana has been left out. Oru Sivandha Man(n) podhume, illaiyaa? Ask NOV.
Yeah, for some reason, I thought Sivaji had a better choice of heroines than MGR! He selected actresses that were more classy, sophisticated, and had more variety than MGR (well, the last criterion is pretty obvious). My favorites were Padmini, Devika, JJ, Vanisree, Kanchana, etc. I even liked the gal that acted in Gowravam and RR (don't remember the name). But I did not like Saroja Devi paired with Sivaji for some reason, though they churned out some massive hits though! :)Quote:

Period.
Usha Nandhini. Initially I was not too enthusiastic about her. Then, I rewatched Ponunjal and saw that she was not bad. But she was hot, I mean very beautiful, can't deny that.Quote:

I agree with Shakthiprabha on this one.
uyarndha manidhan & vasantha maaLigai is good enough for me to say that VaaniSree tops the list.
