This album is as much spb-janaki's as IR's.
I always thought voice was a functional necessity for IR but once very often, you get songs like this which tells you he is very aware of the utility of voices as an instrument by itself. That SPB is a part of many of these probably tells us why he stuck to them instead of experimenting. Consider this:
Nijamu naa swapnam - SPB, with janaki humming just that microsec inbetween. The economy of that humming in janaki's voice is a measured and deliberate tool in Raja's hands.
The melodies in various parts of the song escalate, as Suresh observed in other contexts, and keep surprising you with the turns.
What is important is that this is similar to Sumam prathi sumam in that sense but at the same time, it is not the suffocating, continuous escalation of melody stakes. Here, IR gives us enough seconds to absorb one melody before giving another - the net effect is one of sitting on a boat parked near the shore on Godavari on a moonlit night with your beloved, and partaking the simple pleasures of the waves lapping your feet, and the company of sweet nothings.
The lyrics deserve a mention, too. Is it Veturi, Suresh? Sweet nothings never got more melodious words, and lighter or effortlessly weightless profundity.
Stanza:
SPB: Nijamu naa swapnam // My dream IS reality
ho ho - minute humming by S Janaki
Janaki: kalanO lEnO // I may be there, then again I might
be an illusion
SPB: Neevu naa sathyam // You are my reality
ho ho - minute humming by S Janaki, modified from previous time
Janaki: avunO kaanO // Oh, really! Maybe, not!
SPB: Ooha neevai, usuruko raave // if you are an illusion, why dont you just become real?
And so on.... my limited grasp of telugu could only translate so much but while I might be exaggerating ordinary lyrics for all I know, I find the sweet nothings here, the teasing between the girl and the boy, pretty interesting.
Plum - Thanks to your Writings.

Usha,
I used to relate this song tune always with 'Buffalo Soldier' which was freely used by Deva in Nerukku Ner for 'Akila Akila', and many dont buy my theory hope someone finds the similarity in the tune Iam finding :)
okatey aasa!!!
thank u usha ngo!
Usha,
Vamsi does come up with some funny ideas, doesn't he? Shobana is so thin and so nice to look at. The movie was also a good one, with a lot of 'Godavari' humor.

"Okate Aasa" - "Buffalo Soldier", idhula kooda pitch, tune are not similar, only the sandhams match. Illeengala?
I've always thought the "Pudhu Mappillaikku" "Naan Paarthadhile" similarity to be overblown though Raaja himself has acknowledged this on stage. Sandham dhaane match aagudhu?
Amaam It was my mistake to refer to it as tune similarity. It is infact sandham similarity and the first few lines have same sandham.Quote:

Hi Usha,
Lovely pick.
Last time when I had mentioned songs of Kadhal Jaadi, Plum had responded saying it was a Platinum standard. Couldn't put it better. Every song is class. 'Enna Marandhalum', 'Katre Katre', 'Kanni Mara Koyilile' and a couple more. I heard this movie was never released. A pity. If someone had not heard these earlier I would urge them to do so. They will not be disappointed. One of the most melodious album this decade.

good song nga usha! thank u
Usha - Manase Manase... a beautiful song, one of my favorite Bavathaarini song. There is a light playfulness kind of emoting by both the singers which I enjoy very much.
Thirupadham Paarthen is an amazing song. The starting humming by Chitra is very soulful.
Love the second interlude. I think it's shenai and it expresses happiness feeling perfectly.
I'm pretty sure it's sung by Gangai Amaran. His voice lacks the rustic feel of IR and I feel it's softer than IR's.
suvai,
song pidichadha.. Thank you..
one more thanks for ur support......

'Pudu Ponnu' Never heard this before. One more lovely addition to Raja's Madhyamavathi. As you correctly say, the way the tune of Pallavi moves is as if someone is carrying the 'doli'.
