நான் ஏற்கெனவே வேறு இடத்தில் பதிந்த விஷயம்தான். இந்த த்ரெட்டுக்கும் பொருந்துவதால் மீண்டும் "அரைத்த மாவு சப்ளை"....
தன் திறமையை மட்டுமே நம்பிய நடிகர்திலகத்தின் அசாத்திய துணிச்சல்.....
எண்பதுகளுக்குப்பிறகு இவர் ஏற்று நடித்த வயதான வேடங்களை விட்டுவிடுவோம். ஆனால் இவர் மிகவும் மும்முரமான கதாநாயனாக நடித்த 1952 முதல் 1975 வரையிலான கால கட்டத்தை எடுத்துக்கொள்வோம். அன்றைய கால கட்டம், கதாநாயகன் என்றால் ஜோடியாக ஒரு கதாநாயகி வேண்டும். அவருடன் குறைந்தது மூன்று அல்லது நான்கு டூயட்டுகள் பாட வேண்டும் என்று தமிழ்த்திரையின் முன்னணி கதாநாயகர்கள் இருந்த நிலையில், இவர் ஜோடியில்லாமல் நடித்த படங்கள் எத்தனை......
இவற்றை பல வகைகளாக பிரிக்கலாம்.... அறவே கதாநாயகி (இவரது ஜோடியாக) இல்லாத படங்கள். சும்மா ஒரு பாடலுக்கு மட்டுமே ஜோடியாக வந்துவிட்டுப்போகும் படங்கள். படத்தின் முற்பாதியில் மட்டும் கொஞ்ச நேரமே ஜோடி இருக்க, பின்னர் படம் முழுதும் இவர் தனியாகவே நடித்த படங்கள் இப்படி பல.
அற்வே ஜோடியில்லாத படங்கள்...

And also G. Varalakshmi, Jamuna, Anjali Devi, Madhuri Devi, S. Varalakshmi, also fill in the list.
In my personal opinion, on summing up, I personally feel, none fits the title, Sariyaana Jodi.

I said, I would write about other heroines but even before that, the poll would be over it seems. Meanwhile Saradha and Raghavender Sir had given their view points which would find support from many fans. Any how coming back to the heroines, let me take Devika next.
Devika had a great support among the fans. Madurai had a very large support base for her. Prabhu was telling (few pages back)that she doesn't have that grace and he quoted few scenes from Annai Illam. Sorry Prabhu, beg to differ here. Let me take the first film they starred together. Paava Mannippu. As everyone knows, Mary loves Rahim but he is reluctant to accept her. The way she would express her love in her words, eyes and body language would be so graceful. Take the scene before Paalirukkum song. NT would be tying the புறா கூண்டு and she would come behind and talk. You have to see the expression. When the song ends, the pallavi

Even in a laugh riot like Bale Pandiyaa, she would have done her love scenes better. Especially in Naan Enna solli vitten song, during the line செம்மாம்பழம் போலே கன்னம் சிவந்து விட்டதடி, she would flash a smile with நாணம், which would be so beautiful.
In Annai Illam, the வீணை வாசித்துக் கொண்டே ஏழு சுரங்களை வைத்து சிலேடை செய்யும் காட்சியில் நளினம் இருக்கும். ஆனால் அடுத்த பாடல் காட்சி இருக்கிறதே அது சூப்பர்.
குறிப்பாக இரண்டாவது சரணம். ஏற்றமும் இறக்கமுமாக உள்ள மணல் திட்டுகள். ஒன்றில் இறங்கி ஒன்றில் ஏறி, தேவிகா ஒரு சைடு போஸ்-ல் காலை சற்றே சாய்த்து நின்று இடது கை ஆட்காட்டி விரலால் வானத்தைக் காட்டி

கர்ணன், இருவரும் சந்திக்கும் முதல் காட்சியே அமர்க்களம். இருவரும் பேசாமல் கண்களால் காதல் பரிமாறிக் கொள்ளும் காட்சி அழகாக அமைந்திருக்கும். பிறகு வரும் கண்கள் எங்கே பாடல். காதலையும் விரகத்தையும் சரியான விகிதத்தில் கலந்து சொன்ன பாடல். தேவிகா அந்த உணர்வுகளை நன்றாக கொண்டு வந்திருப்பார். இரவும் நிலவும் பாடல். நடிகர் திலகம் தேவிகா chemistry-க்கு மீண்டும் ஒரு உதாரணம்.
Aandavan Kattalai - the ultimate. As I have already written in the review, Devika would have simply excelled in Romance and teasing. சட்டென்று பெய்த மழையாலும் இடியாலும் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் அனைத்துக் கொண்டு விட, பிறகு தன்னிலை உணர்ந்து நடிகர் திலகம் சாரி சொல்ல, But I am not sorry என்று தேவிகா சொல்ல, What do you mean என்று NT கேட்க, இதுக்கெல்லாம் எப்படி ஸார் meaning சொல்றது என்று முகத்தில் வழியும் மழை நீரை நடிகர் திலகத்தின் மேல் தெறித்து விட்டு போகும் அந்த குறும்பு, மனசிலே இருக்கிற அந்த நுட்பமான எதிரி யாரு ஸார் என்ற கிண்டல், கோவளம் கடற்கரையில் அழகே வா பாடலின் போது வரும் முக பாவம், எல்லாவற்றிருக்கும் சிகரம் வைத்த மாதிரி வரும் அமைதியான நதியினிலே ஓடம் பாடல், இவை எல்லாமே இந்த ஜோடிக்கு வலு சேர்க்கும் விஷயங்கள்.
Rakesh had written about Muradan Muthu recently (Saradha too) and the பாயசம் பரிமாறும் scene again showcases the pair's chemistry.
The movie Shanthi - not much of screen space for Romance but that one song நெஞ்சத்திலே நீ நேற்று வந்தாய் would more than make it up. The lovely looking Devika with a stylish whistling NT would be a treat to watch.
As Neela vanam has been recently written about and since it had been quoted here also, let us not go deep into that. But one thing that needs to be pointed out is it was love between an husband and wife and it would have come out well.
One more factor that made NT fans like Devika was she never did any film with MGR except Ananda Jothi. But as Saradha pointed out it was like a one day match. Paava Mannippu was on March 1961 and Neela Vanam was Dec 1965. So it was a very short period but still it turmed out to be one of the best pairs.
Let me continue tomorrow and this time it would be ?
