As I said a few schedules of the movie were shot with Manjula and in fact she was just crossing the childhood and was too young. But her performance in that role was exemplary. But because of her adodlescent like looks, (I heard, I do not know how far it is correct), it was decided that some senior artistes be approached and only after consideration of two or three names, it was narrowed down to Vaanisree. There is no doubt Vanisree has given one of her best performances in this film. But the pace was a little less than that was given by Manjula. The whole unit was very much pleased with her performance but in the rushes her looks - may be slightly immature for that character - might have been the minus points - what I mean is not about her personality, but the character needed a little more aged lady character. This was also mentioned by KSG during the shooting of Kulama Gunamaa (in the magazine Pesum Padam, around the later half of 1970). More so, when NT & Manjula were arguing, it seemed it looked like a verbal duo between a father and a girl rather than what it should have been. In fact I did not want to elaborate the reasons (which I myself am not 100% sure), but you have touched that point (childish look). After that I do not know if she got such a good chance to perform (even in NT's movies). She had plenty of scope in Dr. Sivaa, but gave very subdued performance in that movie, then Mannavan Vandhaanadi, had some scope. In Avan Oru Sarithiram she had some chance.
