I am very proud to post my first post on this day. I thank esvee,MGR Roop, Pammalar, Masanam, Kaliyaperumal Vinayagam for their posts. Although I am reading the threads
of both Thilagams eagerly, I could not reply. But, in both the threads I read the movie list of year 1968. One can see similarities there. Both the stars have released 8 films
in that year. MGR's 100th movie & NTs 125th Movie released in that year. One can see the Greatness of MGR in that list itself.

In Cricket , We all know, if a batsman scores 100 runs he is said to have scored a Century.
If he crosses 90 runs & fails to score 100 runs he is said to have missed Century. Similarly
If a film runs for 100 days, we can classify it as a Success. If the film runs for 90 or more days
But not 100 days then we may say the film fails to touch the Victory line by a Whisker.
Let’s go back to year 1968. MGR Films, “Oli Vilakku” & “Kudi Iruntha Koil” ran for more than
100 days. Whereas, NTs “Thillana Mohanambal” ran for more than 100 days in Madurai.
So, MGR Films success rate is double that of NTs. If we consider, movies narrowly missing
the 100 days, then two more films join the list. “Ragasiya Police 115 & Kannan En Kadhalan”
just missed 100 days. There’re four films to One. MGR Films success rate is four times more
than NTs.
When it comes to collection, In 1968 the Box Office smasher is Iyakkunar Thilagam K S Gopala
Krishnan’s “Panama Pasama”. It was released in Asia’s biggest theatre “Thangam”.
'Kudi Iruntha Koil" is the highest grosser for MGR Films in 1968.

Thank U. My analysis pertains to Madurai only. Because, in both the threads statistics of Madurai for the year 1968 is available.
Uyarndha Manithan was released in Central Theatre and ran for 70 days. We are analysing the past. Our wishes are different. But facts are facts. NO NTs
film other than the great Thillana Mohanambal, crossed 90 days in Madurai in 1968. UM might have run for 100 days in shifting. But we're not discussing shifting here.

Chennai, Dec 20 (UNI) AIADMK Founder M G Ramachandran was the best Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, according to an opinion poll here. About 44 per cent of respondents considered 'MGR' as the best Chief Minister of the state in a survey conducted by the school of Media Studies (SMS) of the Loyola College and the People Research Centre. The charismatic leader, who launched the popular nutritious meal scheme for poor students, ruled the state continuously for 11 years from 1977 to 1987. He died while being at the helm of affairs on December 26, 1987. Congress Chief Minister K Kamaraj, known for his simplicity and honesty, came second with the support of 31 per cent of respondents. Incumbent M Karunanidhi, who had assumed office for the record fifth time, was third in the list with 14.5 per cent of respondents choosing him as the best Chief Minister. Interestingly, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa, who was considered as the heir-apparent of MGR, had the support of only 4.2 per cent of respondents. She haS served as Chief Minister for two terms. Dravidian Stalwart and DMK Founder C N Annadurai was the last in the list with only 3.2 per cent of respondents voting for him. Releasing the survey findings to the media here, SMS Director S Rajanayagam said student-researchers surveyed 2,943 people in 29 districts except Nilgiris in two phases between November seven to 16 and from December 10 to 14.

CHENNAI: “I am not an MGR fan. I am an MGR fanatic,” declares Anand Kumar Bhowmick as he sits outside his plastics business outlet on the narrow Kasi Chetty Street in Sowcarpet.
Thursday is an important day for him. It is the 22nd death anniversary of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. And Anand’s ode to his idol is a small street-side exhibition of rare photographs of MGR that he had collected over the last 28 years.
He points to a picture of MGR taken just after he had been elected Chief Minister in 1977 and says: “This was the first photo I ever collected. It was a first for me, just as it was a first for MGR”, says Anand. The picture is reminiscent of a scene from Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar, with MGR standing on a balcony waving to a mammoth crowd of adoring supporters.
“I first saw him in person on the Marina Beach. He was on a fast to demand more rice from the Central government. When he stood up, he glowed like nobody else I have seen. I was smitten and have been so since”, Anand recalls.
The day after this he started collecting photos of MGR. He was a postman at the time and says his father used to chide him for spending all his earnings on photographs. Over a period of time, he started collecting other rare photos as well. Today, he has over 7,000 pictures of which around 4,000 are of MGR.
Even as he exhibits a part of his collection, Anand says he has already started shortlisting photos for another street exhibition on MGR’s birthday next year.
