Mr Gopal’s depiction on ‘Vietnam Veedu’ should crystalise the shallow ideas of NT critics who think he overdid it in that movie. The write-ups on NT should not only describe the story, cast and his acting brilliance but also should definitely detail thoroughly, on what back-ground that NT analyzed this character as and why he acted in the way he did. What Mr Gopal portrayed here about VV is totally new to those who don’t know much about Brahmin community, especially those who live in that particular area. In terms of NT showing emotions excessively, (even though it’s been justified by the experienced ‘Hubbers’ before and some even mentioned that Kamal once said that people react differently to a loss of a loved one ) I would like to share my thoughts as well. I myself see people around me react to a news differently. Being a school principal, my father was very strict when we were growing up and when he advised us about how we all have to study hard to be successful in life,( you wont believe this but) he looked more like ‘Prestige Padmanathan’!! As often we, my brothers and sisters, take a trip down memory lane, we laugh about that (even though it was very serious for us at that time). Even the words/sentences my father used were like that of PP used! I can relate to over-emotional PP(or Barrister Rajanikanth or Kattabomman or etc..etc.. for that matter).

I’ve been (still) reading the old messages/NT news/ write-ups from our veteran ‘hubbers’. Those endless threads give me more info every day. ‘The man of NT statistics’ Mr Murali gives extra ordinary details about NT movie releases in chronological order as well as box office hits. I wondered, how possibly NT acted in so many different movies in one day and how did he able to get under the skin of those characters? I think, when a director tells him a story and about his character in it, he would probably start analyzing then and there and ‘create’ his character in his mind. Then he would have applied his creation in the shooting spot. Otherwise he wouldn’t have much time to analyze those different characters he was going to depict on that particular day of shooting, properly.

That is the greatness of NT and devotion to his profession.

நமது குடும்பத்தில் புதியதாய் இணைந்திருக்கும் உறுப்பினர் திரு சிவா அவர்களை வருக வருக என வரவேற்கிறோம் .முதன்முதலாக ஒரு இந்திய நடிகனுக்கு அந்நிய மண்ணில் ரசிகர்கள் சார்பாக இரண்டு மாத இதழ்கள் ஒரே நேரத்தில் வெளிவந்துகொண்டிருந்தது நமது நடிகர்த்திலகத்துக்குதான் ("சிம்மக்குரல்" மற்றும் "ரசிகன்") அது உங்கள் இலங்கையிலிருந்துதான் தான் என்பதை சொல்லவும் வேண்டுமோ?
When I watched ‘Pattum Bharathamum’ for the first time in video, I thought the movie was fantastic, in terms of casting, acting, songs and direction, except slight changes could’ve made the movie more complete and successful. A high flying businessman falls in love with a dancer and becomes a dancer himself, just to be with her. Another different story for NT and enough nuances there to feed his talent too. One Hubber (can’t remember who) mentioned that there was a political issue which hindered the ratings of the movie. (or something, I’m not sure). (It’s a pity that people didn’t separate their views from politics to cinema, when it comes to big heros.)
Anyway, the movie could have ended like; NT meets JJ after so many years, get together and live happily ever after, without creating a son for him (NT again) and his pair Sripriya. It reminds us some of his previous movies and it didn’t have to be like that. Couldn’t the story writer have just ignored the usual NT style movies and created a wonderful love story? NT must have worked really hard learning professional Bharatha natyam. For those who criticises his dance movements in the film; nobody can’t expect him (or the character he portrays) to dance like JJ, as the main theme of the story is a business man who has no idea about dance but learning it out of love.
NT was majestic and stylish in depicting a successful businessman, like he did in Avan thaan manithan. Those scenes when he falls for a dancer are wonderful to watch.
Pattum Bharathamum - a nice movie which depicts the dancing talent of our NT.
