Song: sandhanam poosa
Film: thudikkum karangaL
Singers: Sjanaki, SPB
Lyrics: Pulamaipithan
Music: SPB
Song sponsor Naaz. He writes:
With Thudikkum Karangal, Sridhar grabbed the neck of his own imagination, and didn't let go. Call it wishful (non)thinking or creative epilepsy (note title) this film did not do what he'd hoped it would do for him: keep him au courant, viable and relevant. Didn't happen.
Rajnikanth, Radha, Jai Shankar and Sujatha were as bad (or good) as they can be, and while I remember precious little about the film, some unforgettable lines by the thudikkum (or thudikka vaikkappatta?) janangal after the lights still burn up like halogens.
I'll spare you :-)
SP Balasubramaniam scored the music, and the songs have the signature elements of all the MDs he has sung for. The featured duet captures this diversity within the arrangement, particularly in the interludes, transitions, chorus sections. For all that is derivative, the tune locks you into a zany lilt, perfect for a vacant moment - or few.
A balm. For those who'd left their keys behind.
Sandhanam poosa manjal nilaavum
Vandhanam enru nenjil ulaavum naeram
Vinnilavu paalootta pennilavu thaalaatta
Neelaambari kaetkalaam
Maanikka megangal vairangal vinmeengal
Naan thandha kaadhal seedhanam
Maanikka megangal vairangal vinmeengal
Naan thandha kaadhal seedhanam
Ilavaenir kaalangal reengaara naadhangal
Isai vandu paadum moganam
Nee paarkkum naerangal nilam paarkkum naanangal
Nenjukkul aedho seidhana
Nee paarkkum naerangal nilam paarkkum naanangal
Nenjukkul aedho seidhana
Idhamaaga mai pottu imaiyennum kai pottu
Un kanngal ennaik koidhana
Sandhanam Poosa Manjal Nilaavum

Manjalum Sandhanamum....Semmaththiyaana Poosal! :D Aduththadhu Kunkumam? Trinity, Trident, Touche?
Thanks for featuring this duet - it has been worth the wait!
"Sponsor" to me equals "Paid for By" (which I didn't) so "Courtesy" would work for me :) And thanks for overlooking the hearing (Vaan and not Naan Thandha) and transliteration glitches.
Does this song have a trace of "Ilaigal Meedhum Malargal Meedhum Pani Vizhum Kaalam?" (Janani?) in the interludes?

I am not too fond of Megam Mundhaanai. Thenagaththil Holi? That's one reason. The other is the echo of "Koovungal Sevalgalae" (Raanuva Veeran) when I hear Megam. Just me, I guess?
However, Adada Ithudhaan is a lovely number. SJ-SPB = Spontaneous Combustion!
