Tough to judge TV in this framework. I twist it as: was it all about lines ? No. What he brought to the table was the way he says the lines, his expressions (muzhiththal) when he says it etc. Those are widely considered his forte

Even had it ended it where it ought to have, it earns a mild smile. Not worth the whole effort of setting up the newspaper reading scene, item etc. So I call it inefficient.

Note there are some forms of jokes where the elaborate set-up is a red-herring and the punchline is elsewhere. That is a well built joke. Similarly for puns, where you are judged by groan-level, the elaborate build up (usually due to avoiding the giveaway words) is again funny.

The rest of the jokes should be judged based on the 'efficiency'. i.e. maximum laughter with minimum fuss. That is where TV doesn't even take off.

I know its fun, but when one talks about acting and ignores Sivaji and Kamal, apprehension forms. adhupOla thaan idhu.

Anyway, in my list of unfunny comedians, Goundamani, Senthil, SS Chandran, Charlie, YGM, Vennira Aadai Moorthy, Surulirajan, VK Ramasamy will top the list. Ultimately thats what counts. :P

Cho is satiric. He is basically good in spoofing certain segment or level of folks - mostly politicians. Good satirist, and is very contemporary. But fed with mokka lines, he is unfunny.

Tanggavelu - despite what PR said - has fine delivery and timing. His lines can be mokkai in others hand (say, the wooden pre-Pandyarajan eye roller TR Ramachandran), but he makes it funny.

So, intha vishyatula Tanggavelu gets the spot.

2. Kosteen arakuraiyaathaan purinjathu. But never mind.

Cho's best moments appeal to people in the know, namely those who follow politics and happenings.

Tanggaveloo's appeal to pretty wide range (at that time, and some at this time, except of course you-know-who and you-know-who). Especially family audience.

Answer in the first kosteen. But both are not good in slapstick, or body language. Rendu peerum out. (I did laugh at KAT's hair/wig at the end of Nam Naadu, though). And Cho's Post TRR, PrePandyarajan eye rolling never really caught on.

4. Strike ellam sollurengga. Leesa thaan puriyuthu.

Okay, let me put it this way.

If Cho is Model 29 Smith & Wesson, than KAT is Walter PPK. First one, slow, but can blow your head clean off. Second one, faster, being fully automatic, but lesser damage.
