Bagyaraj is an underappreciated master. Though he belonged to the wordy-school warped in melodrama he had a strong sense of the pace of screenplay.
Here is an extremely smart move in 'Enga Cinna Rasa'. Bagyaraj and his servant go to Radha's town to see her. Bagyaraj is under the impression that he is going to marry Radha (while she is actually betrothed to Bagyaraj's step-brother). The events are developed interestingly and mood is extremely genial.
It suddenly come to fore that the groom in question is actuall Bagyaraj's step-brother. There is an abrupt change in the mood from geniality to disappointment.
Jaiganesh: Maple photo Edhavuthu irundha...ponnu kEkkudhu
Bagyaraj: En photo edhuvum ippa ille, oorukku pOnadhum koduthu vidarEn
Jaiganesh: Periya Maplaikku eppavum thamaash dhaan.... ponnu kEttadhu unga thambi photove
When Jaiganesh start speaking the last line, it is actually off-camera and you see the servant with a half-smile....the smile dies when the sentence finishes.
The abrupt disappointment shown in the servant's face has a greater impact than would have been the case if we had seen the disappointment directly in Bagyaraj's face.
