IMO you are missing the point of TIS. TIS wouldn't be TIS if any other singer had sung it. Period. Ilaiyaraaja, daylight, others....

venkiram..I am really disappointed to see you have this sort of opinion re: TIS and Raaja. Maybe it applies to bhavatharini, but to Raaja too ? IMHO, no way - only he can bring out the bhakti in the voice. He surrenders himself to music..to god..this is reflected in his voice..others are trying to sing..while raaja tries to convey the emotion..the singing is secondary.
I am a fan of raaja's music, his personality might have many flaws..but you can never doubt his devotion to music. Probably his singing skills dont match his devotion..but in a bhakthi song, I take devotion more than technical acumen.

As cr says, to each his own. Reg, Madhu B singing 'Pitchai Patiram', from whatever comments I have read, no one who has heard Raja sing this song thinks that Madhu has done a better job.

Couldn't disagree with you more on this. The reason for Tiruvasagam not reaching the people who listen to bhakthi songs daily are very different and you trying to blame it on Raja's voice is a joke. The fact that these songs were not based did not have a carnatic base like the general bhakthi songs do and also the fact that Tiruvasagam in not easy to understand. Compare it to 'Mariyamma Suliyamma'. Tiruvasagam as an effort was to show bhakthi in another format and Raja succeeded gloriously. I don't think 'Muthu Narramam', which was sung by 'trained singers' like Unni Krishnan, Vijay Jesudas and Manjari, was in any way superior to other songs in the album. What is important is to try and figure out if Raja conveyed the intended emotions through his voice. My answer is an emphatic 'YES'. I have earlier stated this in this forum and state it again. "Tiruvasagam" is the greatest effort by any Indian MD and Raja's voice contributes to this success. It is only a very highly prejudiced mind which can think that the whole effort was not a success.
