Dear Sri Mohan
Thank you very much for your encouraging words. The best language in the world is spoken through eyes and the best eyes to speak belong to NT. No body in the world will be able to translate the language spoken by the eyes of NT exactly, because it has innumerable interpretations. He speaks volumes through his eyes. I thought, why not we focus on his eyes and this idea immediately sparked in me. You have caught it spontaneously since NT fans throughout the globe think on the same lines and are in the same wavelengths. That is the success of NT. I wish to continue this in the future, of course with the encouragement you all give me.

You should watch.... sorry, you MUST watch the complete movie Raja Rani. It is a wonderful movie without 'sendhamizh' dialogues (in 1956...!!).

I read in Kalaingar's 'Nenjukku Needhi-I' that, it was initially planned to be directed by A.Kasilingam, but later given to A.Bhimsingh (thank God). Rani Rani too assured Padmini is a suitable pair for NT.

You watched Socrates play only. If you watch Cheran Senguttuvan play, you will be stunned, because that complete dialogue in a single shot, without shifting camera...!!!!!!!!!!!.

NSK & Madhuram's high quality comedy which coincide with the story well. (that laughing song..... wow).

Murali sir, sorry! Sorgam - Ponmagal song varai parthuvittu, asadhi karanamaga urangi vitten. Pala murai parthirundhalum bore adikkavillai.

Karthik sir, will try to see Raja Rani soon. The climax was very similar to another NT film " PANAM". In that film also, Padmini will lie unconscious on the floor and NT will speak lengthy dialogues. After sometime, Padmini will get up and say everything is a drama.

While I have seen AN a few times I had the chance to see it fully with the attention it deserved only over the last few days.

One of the things that was really impressive was the cinematography. Many indoor scenes are outstandingly lit with regular (but well used) techniques like focusing on exactly what is needed (eg. Rajan's scheming face) and making everything else dark. The silehoutte scene in the garden is part of Tamil
Film folklore. Sivaji's acting there is :notthatway:

One scene that I would like to single out as an example of the beautiful work I would like to mention is the scene where ChinnayyA (PD Sambandam) confronts Rajan (Sivaji) and Ambujam (??).

The scene is indoors, in large living room with wide open windows. The time is in the night. As the three talk we see an alternating dim and dip in the light available in the room. It is not as if the
dim plunges the room into darkness (a la the classic Agni Natchathram climax). But the dim and dip is quite noticeable. It remains a nagging question but the drama in the scene is quite engrossing that it engages us nearly completely.

The camera's view moves around the characters very meaningfully - starts with the scene of Rajan-Ambujam's intimacy as viewed by Chinnayya - after all he is the one who is being 'accused' and the source of his outrage should be the point where the scene starts.
Then it goes to the other end showing the huffing and puffing Chinnayya from nearly the PoV of Ambujan - the one recounting this story to us.

Slowly the moves to away and around such that we see the open window. Through the open window in some distance is a flashing advertisement light. This solves the dim-dip mysetry for us, but note is not the centre of attention and in some innoccuous corner of the frame and the frame changes in a couple of seconds.

Quite obviously the blinking light is for effect and the cinematographer would have had to have dip-dip light source within the set to sync with it. The sync is perfect. The pace is unchanged and is not off by even a fraction of a second
when we do see the advert light outside.

And all this happens in a matter of fact manner without screaming for attention, as the story goes on. The cinematographer is S.Maruthi Rao :clap:
The movie was made in 1954 :shock:
