VR can never be faulted for its technical brilliance. But the content never worked for me completely. The Afghan portions were truly spectacular.The underlying subtexts, themes touched upon by Kamal in those portions were great. Barring that it was just true blue mainstream cinema which was neither here nor there. I never had such a problem with a Hey Ram, Virumandi, Mahanadhi, Kuruthipunal. These were movies that had their intentions clear throughout. Viswaroopam could have been so much more.

Nowadays KH is not interested in doing movies like viru / Maha / KP. He is more towards giving universal appeal to his films. Viswaroopam as a package it is entirely new to Indian Cinema. I started liking his approach. He wants to make movies of Universal standards and show the way for other Indian/ South Indian film makers to follow.

VR-2 2014 Release? Or later this year? I think as per trend of big budget films, it must be pushed to next year.

Coming to VR II, I am expecting it to be better than the first part. All said and done, VR I was far from perfect IMHO. The snippets from IIFA were very enticing. So hopefully I am proved right.

My take on Inspiration vs. Copy vs. remake - After all actors have the right to be inspired by someone/something so inspiration is just fine. So is remake as long as it doesnt compromise with the actor's originality. Its the scene by scene copy and straight lift that irks me. As far as KH is concerned, he has been inspired and remade movies but I thought his 'own' was very much prevalent and coming through. 'Satya' long ago which was remade from Arjun (hindi) held its own presence and so did kurudhi punal.

VR was pretty much original all the way although a few felt it had some semblance to the storyline of True Lies. Maybe but a far shot inspiration. Lloved VR-1 all the way. I felt its was his best in the last 10 yrs - much better than Dasa.

The Media and Entertainment Business Conclave (MEBC) driven by the Federation of India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), started yesterday, 29th October, 2013, in Bangalore and will wind up today.

Kamal Haasan the chairman of the conclave spoke in a recent interview about the business prospects of Indian Cinema. Kamal Haasan mentioned that our collection process is not transparent. If it was, the Indian collections would be more than Hollywood.

"If ten percent of the total Indian population, which is currently a billion watches a good movie, the theatrical collections could easily touch 1000 crores." He says

Kamal reiterated that this can be achieved only if the collection process becomes more transparent and that the effort should be taken individually.

கமலின் ஆயிரம் கோடி திட்டம்!

6 வயதில் களத்தூர் கண்ணம்மா படத்தில் அம்மாவும் நீயே அப்பாவும் நீயே என்று தனது திரைப்பயணத்தை தொடங்கிய கமல், இன்றைக்கு ஐம்பது ஆண்டுகளான பிறகும் அதே மாணவ பருவத்தைப்போன்று பரபரப்பாக இயங்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார். குறிப்பாக விஸ்வரூபம் படத்தை ஹாலிவுட்டுக்கு இணையாக இயக்கி நடித்து மாபெரும் பரபரப்பை உண்டு பண்ணினார்.

காரணம், நாம் 100 கோடி ரசிகர்களை வைத்திருக்கிறோம். அதனால் அவர்கள் விரும்பும் வகையில் நல்ல படங்களை கொடுத்தால் இது கண்டிப்பாக சாத்தியமாகும். இதை எதிர்காலத்தில் செய்து காட்ட வேண்டும் என்ற ஆர்வமும் எனக்குள் உள்ளது என்கிறார் கமல்.
