Good to see all our friends sharing their opinion about Vijay and their favorites among all his great movies. It may probably be a good idea to talk and know what people think about what kind of directors should Vijay work with and why?
I can start ... I feel someone like Vetrimaran would be a good choice if possible. A subject based movie with some local flavor to it would be awesome to see Vijay in.
Maniratnam and his Ponniyin Selvan would've been a great thing. Unfortunately, the budget didn't allow the project to be a feasible one, at least at this juncture.
Mudhalvan was another miss. Vijay was 28 then. Pughazhendhi character was of the same age, played by 40 something Arjun.
Paruthiveeran and Autographs were golden misses too. But I felt Cheran fit the role to a 'T' and Vijay in that role wouldn't have worked out this well.

In the future, yes, Vetrimaran should be a good one to work with. Suseendran also is in my list.

Yes Paruthiveeran was definitely a miss. Wish he had done that. Anyway hope he does try doing these kind of offbeat roles at times. Commercially, they may not be huge as his other "mass" movies, but these roles definitely do a world of good for an actor like him to try roles in different genres.
Couldn't agree more with you guys.
Vijay-Vetrimaran would be a dream combination.
A rare director who keeps the commercial flavor alive all the while providing ample scope for the lead character to perform and excel. Would be a great outcome.
I am not sure how many would agree, but i still think if Yohan happens, that would be splendid too...I know the risk involved with the project, but still would be happy if it happens.
Cedy. ..fully agree. These movies cater to all kinds of audiences and also get superb critical acclaim. As a fan, I really hope and wish to see Vijay in a movie like that once.
My choice is Ameer...Very talented guy.. Even he wanted to do film with vijay.. but things are not falling into place..
Ippo irukaradhula Nalan, Ram or Thiyagaraja Kumarraja thaan... they are so good to create characters...
I would like to see K. S. Ravikumar direct another film with vijay. They seem like a perfect fit. It's unfortunate their earlier movie didn't work out well.
Ameer sure would bring a different dimension to Vijay. He spoke in length about Kannabiran for Vijay.
As fellow hubbers had mentioned, Paruthiveeran was a golden miss. If I am not wrong, even Mounam Pesiyadhey was supposed to be written for Vijay.
But the only problem I see with Ameer post paruthiveeran is his tendency to drag the project beyond reasonable time like how Aadhi Bhagavan turned out to be.
Looks out of form, but Ameer is class. Vijay with Ameer would be an exciting prospect.

Thiyagaraja Kumarraja
Promising director. After Aaranya Kandam, he helped draft the screen play for Billa 2.
Any new movie in his kittty?
Raam I doubt because while he is very good in characterization, his movies have not fared well in the box office. Critical acclaim, yes, but box office wise, not yet proven. But nevertheless a good director.
Nalan needs to follow up with a good outing after Soodhu Kavvum.
After watching Aadhavan, i felt KSR was losing his touch. Lingaa might prove me wrong.
But best of the commercial worlds, Vijay and KSR joining hands again cannot be ruled out.
Suseendran:
One of my favorite directors among the current crop. Has penchant for realistic mass and class. Naan Mahan Alla and Pandiyanadu are among my favourite movies in the last 5 years.
He was in talks with Vijay atleast a couple of times, but no further developments.
I am sure, suseendran would be able to do justice to Vijay, plus he finishes the movie in double quick time.
Would be a nice combination, a kind of a minimum guarantee.
Cedy,
That Susee project is still on. Vijay and Susee spoke after Thalaivaa and since Vijay had already committed for Super Good films and ARM, the movie didn't happen. I thought they'll come together after Jilla and Kaththi but this Chimbudeven project came from nowhere. Let us see..

Ok Ajay. Good that he is in the loop. I heard Susee will be working with Vishal again and hopefully he comes on board after Chimbhudevan's project.
How do you see Chimbhudevan's project faring?
Liked OKMK. But the screenplay was disappointing. For a Vijay film, screenplay should be tight and racy. Hope Chimbu takes care of it. :)

I watched OKMK after Chimbhu-Vijay combination was confirmed by Sudeep and found it to be slow. Good concept, spoiled by low budget and slow screenplay. Hope he takes care of the screenplay for his biggest movie :)
I'd like to see Thalaivar in mysskin's direction..my longterm wishlist includes MR as well....
Director Mysskin who is busy with the shooting of super hero flick Mugamoodi with Jiiva in the lead was caught in a candid talk revealing that he had narrated a script to Ilayathalapathy Vijay but since the actor was busy with his earlier commitments he had no option but to wait for another opportunity.
The director also revealed that Vijay was ready to shed his mass image and do some experimental characters at this point of time, which gave him optimistic the optimistic feel . if time permits the duo will soon join for a flick. http://www.kollyinsider.com/2012/04/...thy-vijay.html
mysskin had already one script it seems.. looking forward to see this combo...
Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Jilla delights fans again!
We earlier reported about the Top 10 Albums of the first half of 2014 in Chennai's FM Airwaves. Jilla, which had composer D Imman’s music, stood in the second place, only next to Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan, that had AR Rahman’s songs.
At this juncture, Star Music India, the label behind the music of Jilla, has released the Original Sound Tracks and Background Score of Jilla, to the delight of fans. The Music Box can be accessed here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6mwURwqwYU
Jilla, starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay, The Complete Actor Mohanlal, Kajal Agarwal, and Soori in the lead roles, turned out to be one of the big money spinners of 2014. http://behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-...ans-again.html
Expecting vj-atlee combo..I think its on the cards..if vj wants to do mass masala movie it should be with hari..he is a most consistent director in tfi now and underated to some extend
I also want vj to give it a try with josalukas ad director
Hari-Vijay combination also has a chance or two to topple some box office records.
IMO, Hari is yet to work with the the best-fit actor for his commercial scripts :)
Plus, his schedules are well planned and quick.
Hope it happens.
To me he has lot of talents ....some of them saying its a over rated film..but many feels other way around...it is the one movie which satisfies all kind of audience last year..
Yeah it was written by keeping vj in mind
Another big combo is vj-kv an and..if it happens it will be a great one
The most irritating thing is wen v r discussing and expect ing this combos from no where guy like nesan getting opportunity and spoiling our party
Personally I feel Vijay should consciously make sure he gives a gap of 3 films at least between 2 out and out mass masala movies, even though that's in his sweet spot. So Hari and Vijay combo, even though may break a lot of commercial box office records, would probably be best if made after a couple of years.
Is that Mysskin article true? If so, I will personally be very happy to at least hear that Vijay is ready to shed his mass image and opt for subject based roles.
Cheers!!
Vj-magizh thrumeni(very promising dir)..if vj would ve done thadayara thaka it would be a absolute mass

Roja actress Madhoo Bala has made her comeback with Vaayai Moodi Pesavum which got good critical and commercial acclaim. Now the actress will be acting in the Kannada remake of Telugu blockbuster Atharintiki Daredi opposite Sudheep. In her recent interview the actress has said that she used to watch commercial films when she was in Mumbai, apparently she expressed her desire to act with Rajini and Vijay. Madhoo Bala has also said that Vijay films are the most entertaining ones.
I agree with that Dammy.
But i also think Vijay should give atleast 2 movies a year and if that needs to happen consistently, Vijay needs to work with quick finishers like Hari and Suseendran.
The worst thing with Thalaivaa with all release-issues and all is, it robbed Vijay of the hard-earned Thuppakki-momentum & form and with no further releases in 2013, the year turned out be an average one.
This is where the likes of Susee and Hari would come in handy.
After Chimbhu's project, which in all probability will not release any sooner than Summer '15 or later, Vijay should join hands with the likes of Susee to ensure a quick and crisp commercial release.
Makes sense Cedy. I agree.
Is the project with Shankar still on? There was no other news regarding that
