Shamshad Beghum's first song for Naushad ji. Even at that time, Naushad ji has composed this song in middle-eastern style.

Rafi's first song for Naushad ji, again from the same film. Eventhough Rafi has sung his first song for a Punjabi film "Gul Baloch" in 1944, I think this is his first hindi song. The surprise in this song is, K L Saigal is the lead singer and Rafi only comes at the end when a beggar is shown. In that way this is a unique song as both singing legends sang this song. This opportunity did not happen to others like Lata, Asha or Kishore. People also say that only Rafi got the opportunity to meet K L Saigal.

These two songs are not special just for the above milestones, it is very special for the way it is composed. Only Naushad ji can bring in all the indian classical flavor blended with folk to reach every audience right from the time it was released till today after 65 long years. These songs has travelled several generations, seen many changes in the musical paths, yet didn't shy away from capturing our hearts. That's why they are called classic!

I could not find a video clip. I think the audio clip is in Raaga.
The song deals with the partition of India.
I used to sing the Tamil version that goes like:
maanilamel sila maanidaraal enna maarudhal paarayyaa manidhan maariyadhenayyaa.........
I listened to this qawwaali about 30 years back sung by a teenager after dinner in our place. We used to have dinner and singing those days! I remembered the line 'na to karavaan ki taraash hai'. Had no clue about the movie. Here it is from Youtube! :)
