Heard about 'the host' creating big 'rift'. Saw the trailer in youtube sometime back.
Recently, Rottentomatoes (idiots) have put up a list of 100 Sci-Fis. This film is ranked higher than 2001 space odyssey, Solyaris, Brazil and what not :o
Maybe it's a good entertainer (from the evidence of the trailer). But the list was a shocker! Is it really that good? :roll:
Well, let me put it this way - without getting into that Top 100 sci-fi list. New York times' reviews of the film actually compares The Host's director with none other than Steven Spielberg!

Saw the film primarily coz its the maiden attempt of the wachowski bros, supposedly made to prove themselves to their producer before he would accept to produce Matrix.
And it really shows how a good cinema doesnt need extravagant things. The whole story is filmed within an apartment, there are only a handful of characters but yet it keeps ppl attached to the screen, mainly thanks to the intelligent screenplay and the powerful narrative. This is a film with so many twists that you will rarely blink your eye for the fear of losing on the plot.
Like in matrix, cinematography is excellent, artistic and rich. Don davis provides an extravagant and grim score and it looks like a precursor to the style that he adopted in Matrix trilogy. Highly recommended film :thumbsup:
Syriana (2005)
A grim picture on the real world oil politics and global affairs. The plot develops at a leisurely pace and in parallel stories. But by the time all the sub-plots crawls towards the big moment, the punch is delivered already. The film has an everlasting impact. People may lose their patience halfway through the film, but those who hang on will reap the benefit. The film has an everlasting impact.
