I was listening to one of my favorite IR playlist named "Songs that made you laugh" (may be a title for another thread?). First song in the list is "Aattukutti Muttai Ittu".
This song always takes me back to my childhood days, whenever I used to visit my grandmother's house for every annual leave. Whenever this song was played on radio, we used to gather round and laugh. I never knew at that time who was the music director, but this song was a rage at that time right from we kids to our grand fathers.
I think this was among the first songs which broke all conventional tune, lyrics, singing, orchestration. Even we could hear buffalo and donkey in the song.
The song starts mesmerisingly with lazy guitar and MV's lazy humming.
The lyrics in charanam adds more fun compared to pallavi's lyrics.
Hilarious lyrics!!
The second interlude has some nice flute and violin accentuated by buffalo's grunt. The percussion changes in the second charanam for the first two lines and changes again after that. What an improvisation.
Excellent singing by MV . When SJ joins the song, gets more interesting.
Again the hilarious ending with donkey's braying and with a end sigh of relief (absolutely amazing!). Not to forget the picturization of the song.
This song will never fade away from me!!

completely agree!! no second thought about it :DQuote:

Yes, the Hindi version of 'poongAtRu' was so pathetic :-( I don't know what logic prompted BM/IR to change the original :?Quote:

(Also, IMO, what BM-IR missed then was NOT missed by MR-AR after a decade).

Can one have 'thalai vAzhai ilai virundhu' on a cold parking lot in north america? On a windy winter morning?
Yes, if you're inside a car with engine switched off and listening to 'உன்னைத்தானே தஞ்சம் என்று நம்பி வந்தேன் நானே' (நல்லவனுக்கு நல்லவன்)!
It's like a text book for anyone who wants to compose a film song!
